Re: Follme Request to_Leastr Streets
Councilman Mueller reported for the Committee on Streets that they did not favor the
request of Mr. Albert Follme to lease parts of certain streets, which request was read at
a former session and incorporated in the minutes thereof. Councilman Mueller then moved
that the request be denied and that the sun of $5.00, which had accompanied the request,
be refunded to Mr. Follme. This motion was seconded by Councilman Steele and upon roll
call vote, all five Councilmen presented voted in the affirmative and the motion was de-
clared carried. -
Re: Duties of Police Department
Councilman Sullivan stated that it was his understanding that members of the Police
Department had refused to remove dead or injured dogs, cats, etc., from the City streets
and he felt that it should be definitely determined as to whether or not this would be
considered a duty of the Police Department. Ile also mentioned the driving of cars by
youths at excessive rates of speed upon the city streets and that he felt that more effort
should be made to stop such speeding. Councilman Steele, and Mr. Hogan of the audience,
each stated that they felt there was opportunity for improvement in the operation of law
enforcement by the City Police.
Re: Municipal Stadium
City Engineer Lay advised the Council that the Jefferson County Com:r,issioners, follow-
ing a public hearing, had signified their intention to acquire all of Blocks 53 and 54,
Original Townsite, for the purpose of creating a public playfield or stadium and that he
had been requested by the County Commissioners to determine the status of the street
area lying between these two blocks, namely that portion of Madison Street between Wash-
ington and Jefferson. Streets. The question raised by Mr. Lay was discussed pro and con
and discussion was terminated by motion of Councilman Gleason that Mr. Lay be instructed
to inform the Jefferson County Commissioners that the Council does not recommend making
any start toward removal or change of the present street area until title to all of the
property concerned be secured and the street vacated by norman process of law. This
motion was seconded by Councilman Benedetto and carried by voice vote of the members
present.
There being no further business for presentation to the Council at this time for their
consideration, it was moved by Councilman Steele, and seconded by Councilman Gleason, that
the Council do now adjourn. Motion carried.
