For your information and for comvnrative purposes only, the price of the equipment meeting your specifications would be, if we were in a position to deliver, $18,600.00 f.o.b. Seattle. A bid from Howard -Cooper Corp. was read, as follows: 1 - 55 ft. all steel aerial ladder truck with 240 E.P. motor, booster pump and ladder pipe. ;;17,590.00 It was moved by Councilman :::ueller, and seconded by Councilman Gleason, that the bid of Howard -Cooper Corp. be accepted. Due to the controversy over the matter which followed the foregoing ::motion, Councilman 'Mueller withdrew the motion with the consent of the sdcond. It was moved by Councilman Carroll that this matter lay ofer to the next meeting, and that the Fire Chiedl provide information by competent authority relative to use of such equip ment under conditions to be encountered in this city. ibis motion was seconded by Council- man Steele, and carried by voice vote of the members present. Re: ','rater Line replacement progress. ":eye- Anderson inquired no to what progress, if any, was being made by the contractor in the replacement of portions of the main water supply line, as provided by the city. Water Supt. Lockhart stated that the contractor had equipr.:ent on the jog, and that the clearing and grubbing, and other preliminary work was progressing satisfactorily. The monthly report of the City Treasurer, for the month of April, 1945, was presented and read, and referred to the committee on Finance and Claims. ;:star Supt. The monthly report of the V;ater Superintendent, for the month of April, 1945, was pre- sented and read, and referred to the co:::;ittee on 1"ater and Drainage. The report of the "later Superintendent, showing fbow of water through main line meters for the weep ending May 14, 1945; and the Crown Zellerbach Co. meter for the week ending I,:ay 5, 1945, was presented and read, and referred to the committee on 17ater and Drainage. REPORTS OF STANDING CO3`•:1IIT5'ETS. Fire and Light. A written report of the Fire and Light Committee was presented and read as follows: Lay 15, 1945. Honorable L.ayor and City Council City of Port Townsend, •,:ashington Gentlemen: Your co:nnittee on Fire and Light which has under consideration the proposal for improved street Illumination within the city, met with representatives of the private utility furnishing electricity to the city, together with I:syor Anderson, City Engineer J. T. Lay, and Councilman George F. I.ueller, last Thursrey evening. The item of Street Lighting, as contained in the post war planning schedule of the City of Porrosepared by former City Engineer A. Bugge and adopted November 17, 1943, was discussed in detail and Lr. Lay was instructed to secure certain maps of the city in order that cost data can be prepared and on hand just as soon as critical materials are released for electrical construction purposes. As now contemplated, this improvement will call for modern light stan- dards on T.ater, Taylor, and Lawrence Streets. In the interval, it was agreed between your comrittee and the utility that there be forthwith instUlled on ','rater, 'Washington, Taylor, Adams, and Lawrence Streets, at least eighteen new suspended li&.ts of candlepower such as described in letter of V% J. Daly, City Attorney, to this Council under date of iCay lot. Your committee further recommends the immediate installation of additional lights in the main residential district of the entire city, placed so that there will be a light at each street intersection rather than at alternate street intersections as presently maintained.
