Lay 15, 1945.
Honorable L.ayor and City Council
City of Port Townsend, •,:ashington
Gentlemen:
Your co:nnittee on Fire and Light which has under consideration the proposal
for improved street Illumination within the city, met with representatives of the
private utility furnishing electricity to the city, together with I:syor Anderson,
City Engineer J. T. Lay, and Councilman George F. I.ueller, last Thursrey evening.
The item of Street Lighting, as contained in the post war planning schedule
of the City of Porrosepared by former City Engineer A. Bugge and
adopted November 17, 1943, was discussed in detail and Lr. Lay was instructed to
secure certain maps of the city in order that cost data can be prepared and on
hand just as soon as critical materials are released for electrical construction
purposes. As now contemplated, this improvement will call for modern light stan-
dards on T.ater, Taylor, and Lawrence Streets.
In the interval, it was agreed between your comrittee and the utility that
there be forthwith instUlled on ','rater, 'Washington, Taylor, Adams, and Lawrence
Streets, at least eighteen new suspended li&.ts of candlepower such as described
in letter of V% J. Daly, City Attorney, to this Council under date of iCay lot.
Your committee further recommends the immediate installation of additional
lights in the main residential district of the entire city, placed so that there
will be a light at each street intersection rather than at alternate street
intersections as presently maintained.
Cost figures on the extra charge for the additional load will be furnished
just as soon as facts become available.
Very truly yours,
H. E. Gleason
