Port Townsend, Washington
SUBJECT: Fixing of Maple, Fir, 0, N, & L Streets. �i +;�i• � � +h
We the undersigned citizens of ?ort Townsend and residents of
the city in the vicinity of maple, Fir, O,N, & I streets hereby, petition
you to have some work done on these streets in this vicinity. we also
respectfully and specifically request that H Street between Maple and z��r,«r�J���g�. r.•
Fir streets be properly opened and located for as it now; is used the
vehicles traveling on N street drive on the parking strip of the privatety�"r�:3..
property lots located on N street L>etw:een t:aple and "Fir streets.
1;e respectfully petition that this condition be corrected as soon
as possible and that a reasonable amount of road work be done on thesef t
streets.

ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS
Election Resolution

A Resolution providinE for notice of city election, was presented and read as follows:
RESOLUTION NO. t?'F

BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend
as follows:
That the notice of the primary election to be held in the City of
Port Townsend November 7, 1944, for the purpose of naming candidates two
to be voted upon at the general municipal election of the City of Port
Townsend to be held on Tuesday next succeeding the first Monday in `
November, 1944, shall be in such form as may be determined by the City Rn
Clerk of Port Townsend.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk is hereby directed to
prepare the form of ballot; to designate the various voting precincts r
within said city and to E.ive notice of said election by posting and
publication for the time and in the manner provided by law.
BE IT FU-.THER hESOLVhD, that the Jefferson County Election Board ,L
be and it is hereby requested to call said election and to join in the }
notice for the call of said election as hereinabove set forth; that the 3
City Clerk furnish to said Election Board a certified copy of this
resolution.

foregoing resolution be adopted. Lotion carried.
Resolution Re: -Referendum 25
A resolution stating the opinion of the City Officials, relative to Referendum.
No. 25, to be voted upon at the general election November 7, 1944, was presented
and read as follows:
hESOLUTION NO.
WHEREAS, the 1943 session of the legislature of the State of
Washington, has offered to the electors of said State, for ratification
or rejection, at the General Election to be held November 7th, 1944, a
measure known as "Referendum No. 25" which purports to take over all
the Power business in the State of Washington, and consolidate it under
one central control, which said measure, or referendum, will appear
upon the ballot at the November election, an above set forth, and
WHEREAS, it now: appears to the City Council of the City of Port
Townsend, that the adoption of said befcrendum No. 25, will be inimical
to the best interests of the City -of Port Townsend, for the following
reasons:
(1) It will make it impossible for this City to take over and
operate an electric and power system, within the City's boundaries as
a municipal enterprise:
(2) 'rill Forthwith deprive the City of occupational tares paid
by the Private Utility now operating within the city;
(3) 'dill deprive the City of it's proportionate share of the
General taxes paid by the private utility, to the Treasurer of
Jefferson County;
(4) Shift the tax paying burden from the private utility to the
home owners and individual enterpriser within the City.
(5) Leave the City of Port Townsend, and each of it's citizens,
without recourse to the Lepartment of Public Service of the State of
Washington, or to any Court or Courts of this State, as to rates or
service.
1107.1 THEREFORE, .i3E IT RESOLVED, BY THE CITY COUNCIL. OF Tl:ii CITY
OF PORT TOWNSEND, that said Council, believing it to be in the best
interest of said city, and all citizens thereof, is opposed to the
