Re: Recreation or Cor._.unity Center
1:r. 1'. 17. Carder, who was present in the Council Chambers, was invited at this time to
place before the members of the Council the matter of the possibility of constructing a com-
munity or recreation center upon the site formerly occupied by the Central high School Bldg.
L:r. Carder stated that there had been a discussion of the possibility of securing certain
Federal funds for the purpose of erecting a building to be used as a coma unity center or
recreation center upon the site formerly occupied by the Central High School Building. This
discussion had been held some time ago and subsequent investigation showed that first it
must be determined what amount could be secured from:•local sources such ac the school,
county and city governments. L:r. Carder stated further that the School Board had tentativel
signified their ability and willingness to pledge the sum of 9',3,400.00 to this purpose.
Operation of such a center would be under the jurisdiction of the City, financed with Federa
funds as nrovided in the Lanham Act. A discussion ensued as to the amount considered neces-
sary to be contributed by the City, and ways and means of providing this sum and, this havin
been settled to the satisfaction of those present, it was moved by Councilman Carroll and
seconded by Councilman Luse that the City Attorney be instructed to draw a resolution pledg-
ing the City to provide a sum of :1,600.00 to such a project if and when approved by the
roper Federal Agency. Upon roll call vote, all five Councilmen present voted in the affir-
i:ative and motion was declared carried.
