Langlie has initiated the taking of an inventory of those urgently needed public works project:' that are being planned and programmed by cities, towns, countie , school districts, port Commissions, drainage districts and all other public administrative agencies. Yhc purpose of this inventory is to find out to what extent a r:ork reserve is being created on the local level so that c reasonable evaluation of this states overall public works program can be made. This is considered to be highly necessary at this time in pre- paring for the transition period of moving employment fron essential ::ar industries back to normal peace time activities no that proper advance programming zay be accomplished in case the back log of local and other public funds is not sufficient to bridge the gap that may occur between wartime and peace time economies. i Our State Aid Division has been assigned the task of making the public .corks survey because of the association that this department has a:ith the cities, counties and others on highways and related matters. During the normal contacts that the Department of Highways will continue to have with you from time to time, we will greatly appreciate your cooperation and any assistance that you may extend this office toward the development of an inventory of public works projects that are being progra=.,od under your jurisdiction.
