They 'were invited by the Mayor at this time to present to the CGUncil such matters as they wished. Mr. George F. Abbey, acting as speaker for the group, stated that they had under consideration the establishment of a program of supervised play -ground activities and recreation, and outlined the reasons upon v:hich the needs for such a program acre based and the proposed benefits to be derived therefrom. He stated that Lip. 1.1. H. Carter, a member of a previously established recreation committee, had .signified a willing- ness to assume the executive responsibility of such a program, that the matter of available funds was the greatest problem at this time. It was felt that the city migct provide at least a portion of the amount necessary to carry out this program upon the basis of juris- diction in such matters by the Park Board. In the discussion which followed, it was stated that the sum which was considered necessary would necessitate the allotment of approximately 600.00 from city funds upon the basis of present plans, and it ,,.,as proposed by Councilman Maroldo that a committee of the Council be appointed to meet with a committee specified by the Active Club to look into the matter thoroughly. This proposal did not appear to meet with the approval of the en- tire group, and further discussion ensued. Councilman Carroll moved that the city appropriate 600.00 for- the purpose of carrying on the progrnm outlined above. Councilman Maroldo requested that the motion further pro- vide that n definite financial program be presented to the City Council for their approval before the expenditure of any of the funds provided be authorized, which was agreed to by Councilman Carroll and others present. The motion was then seconded by Councilman Maroldo and upon roll -call vote, all four Councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. 110 further business appearing for consideration by the Council at this time, it was moved b;; Councilman Maroldo and seconded by Councilman Carroll that the Council do now ad- journ.
