TO ALL CITY AIM T0:'.71 TREASURERS:
Several inquiries have been received in this office regarding the purpose
of a recent remittance to the cities and towns from the State General Fund. We
jY
assumed that the officials of the several municipalities were in touch with the
act providing for this distribution and consequently did not enclose with the
warrants any advice as to the purpose of the remittance.
Chapter 81, Laws of 1943 directs the distribution, in Section 1, subsection
(a), of .3500,000 from the General Fund of the State to incorporated cities and
towns on the basis of the Federal census of 1940, payment to be made on or before
April 1, 1943, another similar nn;ment to be made on or before January 1, 1944.
A further distribution of $1,000,000 Drovided for in subsection (b) of Section 1
is to be made in four semi-annual installments beginning April 1, 1943 to those
incorporated cities and towns showing an increase in population of 3% or more
over the 1940 Federal census, such distribution to be made on the basis of a
certificate of a census board provided for in Section 2 of the act.
