MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL, JULY 7
WHEREAS, the City Council of the City of Port Townsend has been further informed by
the Coordinator of the County -fitly Defense Council that the City of Port Townsend is
within what is termed a definite 'target area" and,
WHEREAS, the Fire Department in the City of Port Townsend consists of three men only
who devote their full time to fire fighting, and that the induction of Firemen Wayne R.
Albright and Jesse LaVera will render the efficacy of said Fire Department wholly im-
potent., and that by reason of the shortage of man power, it is practically imnossible for
the City of Port Townsend to train firemen to take the places of the above named, and,
WHEREAS, the said Albright and LaVera are in the so-called second draft,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY`OF PORT TO!'.'NSE11D that it is
the opinion of that body that it is in the public interest that the induction of Wayne
R. Albright and Jesse LaVera be deferred or reclassified, as the occasion may demand, for
the reason that their services are more valuable tp the government of the United States
as municipal firemen than as soldiers in the United States Army.
BE I'P FURTHER RESOLVED that the City C!e rk file aith the Local Draft Board a copy
of this resolution and that he inform the City Council from time to time as to what is
necessary to be done to accomplish the objectives hereof.
