HomeMy WebLinkAbout00137 MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL, JUNE 16, 1942262 Re: Monroe Street Sewer Repair Councilman Lammers asked Attorney Daly as to the status at the present time of the claim for reimbursement expenditures made by the city to repair the sewer main upon I Monroe Street between Washington and later streets broken at the time of the construction of the U.S.O. building at that location. Attorney Daly stated that action upon this matter had been instituted in the courts and that at the present time, necessary papers were in the process of being served upon Mr. Phil Anderson, the Contractor in charge of the erection of the said U.S.O. building. ADJOURNMENT No further business appearing for consideration by the council at this time, it was moved by councilman Maroldo and seconded by councilman Carroll that the council do now adjourn. Motion carried. / a5 or Attest: city CSer7c MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF THE CITY COUNCIL, JUNE 16, 1942 Port Townsend, Washington June 16, 1942 The CITY COUNCIL of the city of Port Townsend, Washington met in regular session this 16th day of June, 1942 at 7:30 o'clock P.M. in the council chambers of the city hall, Mayor pro tem, 7.1m. Lammers, Sr. presiding., ROLL CALL Officers and members answering present to roll call vrere as follows: City Attorney, t7. J. Daly, City Clerk, C. F. Christian and councilmen, J. F. Maroldo, Wm. Liumters, Sr., Dennis Sullivan, and'J. M. Carroll; l^. B. Cornett arriving later in the session. EIINUTES OF PREVIOUS SESSION It was moved by councilman Maroldo and seconded by councilman Sullivan that the Minutes of the previous session be approved as written. Motion carried. REPORTS OF OFFICERS City Treasurer The monthly report of the City Treacurer for the month of May, 1942 was presented and read and referred to the committee on Finance and Claims. BILLS AND CLAIMS The Claim of Mr. W. A. Bugge for engineering services in the sum of $200.00 upon the ll� City Street Fund was presented for consideration of the council. Upon approval by members of the Finance committee, it was moved by councilman Maroldo and seconded by councilman Carroll that the rules of the council be suspended and that the Claim of Mr. Bugge be allowed and that the Mayor and city Clerk be authorized to issue a warrant upon the City Strset Fund in payment thereof. Upon roll call vote, all four coun- cilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. Cornett Arrives Councilman W. B. Cornett arrived at this time and assumed his seat in the Council. BUILDING PERMITS A request for permission to build vraa q presented and read in full as follows: Port Townsend, Plashington June 10, 1942. Honorable Mayor and City Council Port Tovrnsend, Plashington Gentlemen: Permission is requested to build an addition, 10' x 101, to my dwelling situate Foster and Adams Streets; at an estimated cost of $40.00 for materials. Respectfully submitted, J. A. Deakin-' Permit Granted It was moved by councilman Sullivan and seconded by councilman Cornett that permission be granted in accordance with the foregoing request. Motion carried. It was moved by councilman Maroldo and seconded by councilman Carroll that the Council authorize the attendance of Mr. Bartl at the said Institute of Government upon the same basis as in former years with the City reimbursing expenses in the sum of not to exceed $40.00. Motion carried. From Assoc. of 'Hash. Cities Receipt of an A.M.A. Wash. news letter visa acknowledged with assurance that same would be on file in the office of the City Clerk. From State Dept. of Highways The monthly form letter of the State Dept. of Highways showing this city's April allotment of gasoline tax funds to be $770.10 visa presented and read and ordered filed. From William Nagel, to -wit: TO THE CITY OF PORT TO13NSEUD: GENTLEKEN: A request for a permit to move a house from a sxovr in Port Townsend Bay, at a point in the vicinity where hater Street is intersected by Polk Street, public thoroughfares in the City of Port Townsend, over and across said Plater Street, at or near said intersection, hereinbefore mentioned, is hereby made, by the undersigned. DATED THIS 9th day of June, 1942. William Nagel permission Granted It was moved by councilman Maroldo and seconded by councilman Cornett that Mr. Nagel be granted the permission requested in the foregoing letter, the provision that said Mr. Nagel save the city harmless from damage to the existing highway or public utility in- stallations thereon. Motion carried. From 'N. J. Daly, to -wit: Port Townsend, Plashington June 16, 1942. Honorable Mayor and City Council, City of Port Townsend, Gentlemen: Application is hereby made for the use, without charge, of the two rooms -on the second floor of the City Hall formerly occupied by the State Highway Department, for the purpose of providing office facilities for Rationing Board Y-1. I have no authority to even tender contribution for fuel, light and janotor service, but I assume these details will later adjust themselves. The continuing activities in this city incident to the development of the pro- gram of Civilian Defense will eventually require that the records of the Rationing Board be moved from the Veterans Hall and a separate rationing office with regular personnel be set up. A Requisition by the City Treasurer for a used F.& E. check writer and a numbering machine was presented and read and referred to the committee on Finance and Claims.
