The houses owned by :.Irs. Fiddiger and myself, situated behind the Roman Cati:olic Church on Pierce St. (Need a new water supply line). For your information it now takes five minutes to get a bucket filled with water ❑t Ers. 'rrid.igorls, so in case of fire there is no protection. The present supply pipes were donated to the city some 40 years ago, and since then the City Treasury has received some three thousand dollars, without expense. I trustrthe council will consider bringing any old bye laws up to date so this wort: can be done. Thanking you for your consideration, we remain Yours Truly, Lars. Jessie Fridiger Seabrook Young This matter was referred to the Committee on Pinter and DrninaCe. From State Dept. of Health, to -wit: Seattle, Washington August 1, 1941 City Council Port Townsend, Washington r Gentlemen: On July 21st, the annual inspection of the Port Townsend water sypply was made for the purpose of certifying it for use by interstate carriers. '!1e find that this supply cannot be certified due to the inadequate control ofer chlorination. To provide proper control for chlorination, it will be necessary to install a sampling tap in the 30 inch line, at least 250 feet below the point of application of the chlorine. A three-quarter inch pipe line may be run from this point up to the chlorinator house for oasp in sampling.;:L'ito;relaur4iaea:cyht;ader;>s3touldsbe;: mount©d;:on;:sr;:soo-3e;:to;:deteirmi:ne;:the::dni:3y;+uoe;:of;:ch3orine This tap should be allowed to run at least five minutes before a sample is collected for residual chlorine determination. The chlorine cylinder should be mounted on ❑ scale to determine the daily use of chlorine as well as how much chlorine is left In the cylinder. For reading chlorine residuals, vre recommend that you purchase a Hellige type comparator which may be secured from the Wallace and 'Tiernan Sales Corporation, Terminal Sales Building, Seattle. Ple talked to L:r. C. H. Purdy, pipe line maintenance man, in regard to his taking daily residual chlorine readings. Ha said that he would be glad to du so if properly instructed. These residual chlorine readings should be taken daily and recorded on forms which we will provide. l:e ask that the City Council, through LIr. Lockhart, take steps to provide residual chlorine determination and that they contact Lir. Purdy in regard to making the readings. Unless proper control is secured over chlorination, we find that it will be necessary for us to hotify the Army, Coast Guard, and Navy Department that the Port Townsend water supply is not recommended by this Department. We are enclosing instructions for making residual chlorine determination. We trust that the City Council will react favorably towards this request. Very truly yours P.OS: EP *' Enc. M. S.
