The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, met in regular session
this 21st day of January, 1941, at 7:30 o'clock, P.M., in the Council Chambers in the City
Hall, Mayor H. E. Anderson presiding.

{ Upon Roll Call, Officers and Members answering present were as follows: Mayor H.E.
Anderson; City Attorney W. J. Daly; City Clerk C. F. Christian; and Councilmen Wm. Lammers
Sr., J. M. Carroll; C. E. Richards; J. F. Maroldo, and Robt. W. Brown, Councilman Dennis
Sullivan arriving during the session.
MINUTFS OF PREVIOUS SESSION
It was moved by Councilman Robt. Brown, and seoondeu by Councilman Richards, that the
minutes of the previous session be approved as written. Motion carried.
APPLICATION FOR LICENSES
Applications for licenses to operate "For Hire" cars in the City of Port Townsenu
for the year 1941, were presented and read as follows:

1 hereby make application for renewal of my license to operate a for hire car
(taxi) in the City of Port Townsend, during the year 1941.

It was moved by Councilman Maroldo, and seconded by Councilman Carroll, that lieenses
be issued in accordance with the foregoing requests. Motion carried.
REPORTS CF OFFICERS
City Treasurer
The monthly report of the City Treasurer for the month of December, 1940, was presents
and read and referred to the Finance Committee.
Sullivan Arrives
Councilman Sullivan arrived during reading of the Treasurer's report and assumed his
place in the Council.
Water Superintendent
The monthly report of the Water Superintendent for the month of December, 1940, was
presented and read and referred to the Water Committee.
The report of the Water Superintendent showing the flow of water thru the main line
meters for the week ending January 20, 1941, was presented and read and ordered filed.
BUILDING PERMITS
A request for permission to demolish a building was presented and read as follows:

Gentlemen:
Permission is requewted to tear down the old Sander's Bakery building; behind
the present Sorge Grocery at 1030 Lawrence Street. Lumber and debris will all be removed
and premises cleaned up.

COMMUNICATIONS
From Dept. of Highways
A form letter from the Dept. of Highways of the State of Washington, showing this
city's gas allotment of Gas Tax Funds to be $751.77, was read and ordered filed.
Oak Street Petition
A communication from property owners in the vicinity of Oak Street, between "S" and
"U" Streets,was presented and read as follows:

January 4th, 1941
To the Honorable Mayor and Members of the City Council of the City of Port Townsend:

We, the undersigned, respectfully petition your Honorable Body to vacate that portion of
"Oak" Street between "S" Street end "U" Street.
We are the owners of Block 101, 102, 104 and 105, Pettygrove's 2nd Addition to the City
of Port Townsend, which are the East and West ooundaries of the street petitioned for
vacation.
That portion of the street which we ask be vacated is impossible to improve to furnish
access to any other property or as a public thoroughfare or for any other purposes, and
is located in almost in its entirety on the face of a steep bluff.
Sketch is herewith attached showing the relative location of the bluff line to the
property itself.

plaining against the action of the Department in passing on to the patrons the
occupational franchise and similar municipal charges against the Pacific Telephone and
Telegraph Company as specified in the Department's Supplemental Order of December 17,
1940, and requesting a rehearing.
