December 3, 1940
Honorable Mayor slid City Council
City of Port Townsend
Gentlemen:
I forgot to inform you that the Denartment of Public Service last month entered an order
in the Pacific Telephone and Telegraph rate case, directing that co:npm y to "puss on" to
its subscribers in any city innposing occupational taxes, the amount of any such tax at
elto
the tax rate. In conjunction with tine cities of Seattle, Olympia, Spokane, llayton, SCourt
and Bellingham, I have joined The City of Port Townsend in an anneal to the Superior Court
of the State of Washington for Thurston County, seeking a review of the order.
If the Denartment prevails, it means that the citizens of Port, Townsend will have to pay
the 2% city occupational tax in addition to their phone bill.
I believe it would be proper that the Council confirm my action in the matter.
Ver': truly yours,
71. J. Daly
