It was moved by Councilman Sullivan and seconded b; Councilman Lammers, that the
permits be granted as requested in the foregoing communications. Motion carried,

From State Hiway Dept.
A form letter from the Dept. of Hiways of the State of :7aa_.ington showing this City's
September allotment of Gasoline Tax r'unds to be 1,1794.97, was read and o;^dered filed.
From Assoc. of '''+ash. Cities
The City Cleric acknowledged receipt of a bulliten of the Assoc. of Wash. Cities
designated as Information Lalliten No. 3 (Series B), relative to action taken at the
various regional meetings of the Assoc., and assured those present that acne would be
available at the Clerk's office,
Crimacurn Water Petition
A petition requesting the City of Port Townsend 17ater Department to extend the
present Hadlock-Irondale line to C`nirnacum Corners was presented and read and names of
signers noted.
There being a nwober of people present from the district to be benefited by such a
line, the Mayor asked if any of those present wished to make any staterents regarding the
matter of such w ater line.
Ir. Here- LaBlanc addressed the Council, stating that he represented School District
No. 47, and that the need for a better water supply of the Chimacwn School tvaa quite
urgent as the present supply at times Is entirely inadequate, and has a high iron
content, making it repulsive to the taste. Iie stated further that tho the school water
supply visa separate from that used at other places In that vicinity, nevertheless, the
facilities for maintaining its purity were very limited.
lirs. Jackson availed herself of the opportunity to explain the need of City water
from the standpoint of the Peninsula Food Stores; Bill's Garage; Valley Tavern, and Ir.
Herishaw, merchants at the Corners, and stated that the present water supply contained
considerable undesirable marine and other life; that the present supply did not have
sufficient pressure for ordinary commercial and sanitary purposes, and that the Peninsula
Food Stores, with their need for water in connection with the ice machine, were particular-
ily in need of a better supply.
Councilman Lar:::ers asked if any of those present had any definite information as to
the status of the franchise form:rly held by '.7illlas "ishop for supplying water for this
community, but none of those present had definite knowledge upon this point.
ILavor Hirtzler than referred the petition to the Water Committee;
and City Attorney for investigation ?rr' report, and assured those present that action

would be taken upon the:::otter as speedily as practicable.
Mr. Hans Lind and lirs. John Amacher arrived at t-1a time and after explanation of
what had taker place, Lrs, "nacher stated that she also represented Ers, Nat Ingram at
this meeting, and assured the Council that the need for a better supply of water in that
comr::unity was urgent. She stated that many of the children attending school would not
drink water during the day as required for their health, but would wait until they came
home from school and drink crater obtained fro:, other sources.

Requisition Granted
It was moved by Councilman Earoldo, and accorded by Councilman P.obt. Brown, that the
Porego'ng requisition be granted, lotion carried.

Re: Fire Department Needs
Fire Chief J. J. Lafferty was present in the Council Chambers and took this opportunity
to present to the Council an outline of the need for added equipment for the r'1re Department
particularily the need of a new light fire engine, He stated that the recent fire on
Union Lock had made evident to :post of the citizens the need of additional eouipment for
Proper protection of property within the City. He stressed the fact that the present
engine was ageing, but that by supplementing it with a new light fast ergir_e, many ;:ore
Years of good service could be obtained from the present eauipment. lie also pointed out
that when the Department answered one call, with the present available equipment was used
and no means of combating additional fires were the
available.
The members of the Council present discussed this Natter pro and con among themselves
with a ger_eral informal discussion, and it was finally arrar_ged that the Fire chief should
contact the members of the r'Ire Committee personally .in order that they (the Committee)
