ORDINANCES AIM RESOLUTIONS Re: Water Shed Report Councilman Idaroldo reported upon the visit of City and National Paper Products Company officials to the Cedar Lake Water Shed of the City of Seattle to view results of logging in that area and stated that all members of the party had expressed definite verbal opinion: to the effect that each was opposed to any cutting of timber on the Big quilcene River Plater Shed. He stated further that it was the opinion of those making the trip that no true similiarity existed in the two areas, and that conditions such as were found to exist in the Cedar River water shed would be ruinous to this City's water supply if duplicated in the Big Quilcene River Water Shed. City Attorney Daly then read a proposed resolution protesting any cutting of timber in the aforementioned area as follows: RES OLUPI ON IYIiEREAS, it appears to the City Council of the City of Port Townsend from report of those representatives of the City who made inspection of the watershed of the water supply system of the City of Seattle, after logging operations had been completed thereon, that no similarity exists in the two sheds, and that logging within the area of the Rig Quilcene River in the National Forest, is really not for :he present in .the public interest. BE IT TIIEP ORE RESOLVED by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend: That the following resolution, adopted by the City Council Itay 27, 1937: ;1H- EAS, it appears to the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, that future logging operations within the Olympic National Forest, especially within the zone of Y the watershed of the Big Quilcene River, the water supply of the City of Port 'iownsend, will prove detrimental to that water supply, therefore, IT RESOLVED, by the City Council ofthe City of Port Townsend: That it is the sense of this council that no future sales of timber for logging purposes be made by the United States Gover:mient within the watershed of the Big 4luilcene niver in the Olympic National Forest, and that the District Forester restrict said zone to travelers, except on permit of the Forest Service. Upon completion of the reading of the foregoing resolution by Attorney Daly, it was m o ved by Councilman Robert Brown and seconded by Councilman Maroldo, that the said resolution be adopted. Upon roll call all four Councilmen present voted in the affirmative, and the motion was declared carried. The paint on the walls to be Sherwin-Williams one coat Kasonry finish, the same to be guaranteed insofar as the .Sherwin-Villiams Company does. It -dill adhere very satisfactorily to brick and masonry and will a ' give years of satisfactory service. Under this we would use Laux product called Stopit ove the spots of lime which were recently put on the building which will stop the fluoresm::nt r tr action. This would also include the same aluminum paint and Beat wuality House paint on Y{ r the wood and metal parts. Witheridge Tom. s 1 p h i w i T There being some question in the minds of the members present as to the material specified in the bid of the Olympic Hardware and Furniture - P YmP u niture Company, the Manager, Mr. a. .Iitheridge was called by telephone and came immediately to the Council Chambers where he answered all questions asked to the satisfaction of the members present. Bid Awarded It was moved by Councilman nobt. Brown, and seconded by Councilman Sullivan, that the Olympic Hardware and Furniture Company be awarded the contract for painting as outlined above, apon the basis of the alternate bid to furnish Laux Rezcote, and that the sum of ; r $500.00 would be paid upon completion'and acceptance of the work, the balance to be included in the budget for 1941, and to be paid February 1st, 1941. Upon roll call vote �-ssw c ra all four Councilman present voted in the affirmative and the motion was declared carried.
