MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SESSION OF FEBRUARY 169 196b UUNTlI4UZ11
Mayor Sullivan reforred the nbovo communication to tno Street Committee.
BID OPENING
The following bids wore opened for a 1965 Dump 'Chuck for the Street Department .

It was moved b, Councilman Lindsey seconded by Councilman Hoglund that the low bid of
Olympic Garage be accepted. Upon the question, Supt. Arey monti nod that the Olympic Gnrago
had moved and didnt know if lie had the facilities for truck maintenance and didnt know for
sure if he had a mechanic. Councilman Lindsey mentioned that there was a part time mechanic
and didnt know for sure whether a dump truck could got inside the building. After some
discussion Councilmen Lindsey with drow his motion Councilman Hoglund withdraw his second.
Councilman Carter made n motion seconded by Councilman Siebonbaum that the bids be held over
until the next regular session so that the facilities of the Olympic Garage could be checked
Notion carried.
NEW & OLD BUSINESS
Councilman Siabenbaum reported on the request for a 6" water tap for H. J. Carrolls
shopping center, snying that a public hearing would be held on March 2nd for Mr Carrolls
vacation of streets and would like to hold up the request until after lie hearing.
Mayor Sullivan asked the Council to look into and see if they could come up with a now
idea on how to put in more storm sewers and sowor linos.
L:ayor Sullivan also asked the harbor and health committee to look into the garbage situati,
at Fort 1'iorden.
Mr Eianerson member of the Park Board informed the Mayor & Council that extensive damage
had boon done at the 'Taylor St. Terrace and at Chetzemoka Park by motor bike riders and askei
ecmeration from the public to help in future incidents.
Councilman Judy reported for the light committee, saying they would like to hold Kup the
request 6f a street light at Tremont & Beach until a later date.
Councilman Carter brought up the dog pond situation, saying he would not like to the the
place closed, but something had to be done as far as personnel and possibly close the sholte
for a period of timo until it could be cleaned up for it was in a sad Aituation and no one
in there rirint mind wrould board an animal tiore. After some disausion Councilman Ruby
suggestodomPaternal orginazation might be interested in taking it over as n project, Mayor
Sullivan appointed Councilman Ruby to look into his suggestion.
Mayor Sullivan called upon Councilman Judy to report on behalf of the light committee on
advnntagas of now, street lights, Councilman Judy reported to upcomming repair costs and
advantages of now lights, said he had contacted Mr Copps local manager for Fugot Sound Power
& Light Co. ti see if the Company could come up with a package deal on now mercury lighting,
and that ,r Copps who was present had came up with a proposition and would like to have him
explain it to the Council. :uyor S llivan called upon it Copps. lie said that a survey had
been talon of the ornamahtal existing street lights on Lawrence, hater &: taylor streets.
The Comapny now had a tnriff rate available to the city where they furdish the fixtures,
provide the fixtures, install the fixture do all the maintenance, the glass changing the
bulb changin. The new, mercury vapor lights would be installed on there own existing poles,
and there would be no future maintenance cost to the city. The now lights to have a 250%
increase in lighting capacity. The cost would be 108.80 par month more which would still
keep it under the oxistin, budgot. Stmoot Supt. Arey mentiobd that the present._cost':ofl,

the now lighting. Aftor some discussion it wns moved by Councilman Carter seconded by

The City Council of the City of Port Townsend mot in regular session this 2nd day of 1'larc
1965 at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers of the City liall. Maryo Sullivan prosiding.

official road grade in the City of Port Townsend can be done only through the City Counil
by Ordinance.

Englneor Becker said that Ur Carroll wantod a reference grade for the street so that he
would know to what elevation to build his buildings for the right drainage and etc and
recommended the grado be made and the city council drawl up an ordinance to that offoct.
Councilman Lindsey mndo a motion seconded by Councilman Judy that the City Attorney draw
up an Ordinance as requested by Mr. Carroll. Motion Carried.
