Honorable Mayor R- City Council
Port T-,.msend, Wishi^; ton
Dear ?daynr, City Cnuneil and ail concerned.
It. Is with great. reluctance I cull to piur nttertinn this which hnpnened Snturdny, June 21 at, the American
Legion Clnh. Althou,,^,h it r_onld have been At any nther pl.nce and of any other nature, I basten to Assure
,,on that. it is not the incident rerein referred to but the aftermath that brings my rmmnlaint.
At about 12 midni?ht a frnens took plane at the Cimacum Alumni Dann- held nt the Rho— mentinned estahlishmli
which involved several arrests, nit inclvdt na ny-self, but, included sire attests who did not^.eressaril,,,r crisli
to nnrticirate. After several stops and starts I suggested to one of the -.en who -ere h0-ing se ,•e nt. tho
rich that he shn,ld call fir the ^olive. I ,`,ns infnrmed that the rail had been rlaced some time hornre.
After waiting same time I decided tO go after the pplioe in duty at, this time. I fnnnl them nt, a rife
vidnntly ha,rinm just finished their rrffee, which they are mast certainly entitled to. I infnrmed Officer
Phegley that there was a lingering fight going on it the .American Lev -ion Club. Mr. nhevle, info..n', me thnt.
it Has the dt.ty of the rhimnrnm Police Demrt^ent, to keen nrder at that ,iann.a--not bis, nid th=y wo,l't have
to take care of it themselves. At the tixe I was tniki.rrg to Office nhemley I also informal Sheriff nansen
And his dern_t_', Mr. McClure if the ipcid nt.. They were not interested olther. After some nr@,ime t I vas
able to convince the rnlice that they should at least in'estigate. A short time later they Arrived at the
Club but except for doing some tAlki" took no ar-t,-an. The netinn taken, in the other hard, is not my
cnirninint. My enmrl.aint is the fact that the" needed nn Argument to even invosti.gat.e.
If this is An example of the pal ir:e orotecti-n the Port Townsend neonle have available ir. some rasas, may
I suggest an increase in nay that will attrnet a ty^e of man woo will not in'y be nlhle to keen order but
that would be much more willing.
I wo,ild nt t,Iis time like to made. A notion that the Council ineronse the any of the Police Depnrtmnnt a
minimum of t50.00 per month as soon As the miney is nvailahle. T'•en if the rrese^.t rolioe offin-rs do not
act and snrve as they snn, ild, thin relieve them of their duties and replace them with n_rsons w111.i.ng to
