Storhow, Estimator BID ACCEPTANCE In recommending acceptance of a bid, Councilman Siebonboum romarked that because Johns Mansville pipe is svniler to that iith which the '';star Department has in place, and because it is American made pipe as opposed to Italian made pipo as offered in the Pacific Water - Works Supply Co. bid the Council after due consideration recommended that the bid of the Johns-Mansville Co. be accepted. Councilman Siebenbaum moved that the Johns -Mansville Co. bid be accepted, seconded by councilmen Lafferty. Upon roll call vote six Councilmen voted in the affirmative, one opposed. The dissenting vote was cast by Councilman Swinhoe. Motion carriod. REG-LAR ORDER OF BUSINESS, REPORT OF OFFICERS The Police report for the monAb of January was road and ordered filed. Jim Austin, reroof dwelling, restore foundation and build shed, 24' X 40' and 16' X 241, frame construction, 911 Tyler St., Cost 6700.00 Burr Druliner, build carport, 16' X 201, frame construction, 1437 Washington, Cost 050.00 John F. Hawkins, remodel house and garage, 30' X d0', frame construction, 25th and Thomas, Cost $1500.00 It was ^owed by Councilman Avery, seconded by Councilman Siobenbaum that the building permits be granted. All Councilman voted inthe affirmative, motion carried. nOVING PERMITS The following :roving permit was read and noted upon as follows: Leonard W. Smith, move 50' timbers from Pattsner's dock to 1127 Adams St. It was moved by Councilman Sullivan, seconded by Councilman Lafferty, that the moving permit be granted. All Councilman present voted in the affirmative, motion carried. TEAR DOWN PERMITS The following tear -down perm was roc an acted upon as follows: Roy J. Bergstrom, tear down building, 30' X 1507 Iashington St. It was moved by Councilmen Lindsey, secondedn by Councilman Sullivan that the tear down permit be granted. !ill Councilmen persent voted in the affirmative, motion carried. COId'SUIIICATIONS The following comaunlent'on was read and acted upon as follows: Dear Mayor and City Council members: We the members of the Olympic Karters would like to request the use of Washington St. from ,Quincy to Monroe Avenue from 1:00 P.bl. to 5 P.Id, on Sun- days for the purpose of Kart instruction and operation, and club publicity. It will be supervised. �'. Thank you, President, Jack L. Tice V. Pres., Vern A. Doolittle Councilman Sullivan stated that the Street Committee had already studied the matter and he moved, seconded by Councilman Siebenbaum, that the request be granted. U F I 11 IL I c r1 1A 25*9 Councilman Sullivan reported for the Street and Sewer Committee on the request made by Mr, L.H. Hall Mr. Hall had previously requested an easement through City owned Block 47 in order that a sewer line might b e built in the North Beach area. Councilman Sullivan moved that the easement be granted, seconded by Councilman Lindsey, all Councilmen present voted in the affirmative, motion carried. Councilman Sullivan in reporting for the Street Committee on the Varen»Teacher Asso- ciation's renuest for stop signs to be placed on those intersections on Blaine and Pierce Streets from the school area to Washington Street recommended that the committee, after conferring with the Police Chios and the Street Superintendent, advises that Blaine and Pierce Streets be made through streets from the school area to Lawrence Street but not as forsouth as Washington St. Councilman Sullivan moved, seconded by Councilman Lafferty, that stop signs be placed at those intersections of Blaine and tierce Streets from the school area to Lawrence Street. All Councilman present voted in the affirmative, motion carried. Councilman Mueller, reporting for the Building Committee, advised that the Building Committee,in considering the request from the Jefferson County Historical Society to repair the firemen's old escape hole in the room now occupied by the Historical Society in the City Hall, recommends'. that the cost of repair, some $20 to $25, be borne by the Historical Society, as they agreed to occupy those quarters at no cost to the City. There being no further old business, the Mayor celled on Fire Chief Bob Jones to give a report on the Fire Department's newly acquired truck. The Fire Chief reported the the truck, obtained through the Staie Civil Defense De- partment at no cost to the City, requires various repairs and equipments to the extent of approximately $3700.00 This includes a radio, hose, tank, light, wiring, small fire fight- ing tools, otc. Councilman Lafferty moved, seconded by Councilman Lindsey, that the City take the proper steps toward acquiring this needed equipment. Mayor Leighton requested that the entire Council and in particular the Fire Committee meet with the Fire Chief and City Attorney at the Fire hall on Wednesday, February 17 at 8:00 P.M. to discuss the matter.
