LIathisen From Cotton Engineerin & Shipbuilding Corp. to -wit: B6bt Townsend, Washington December 17, 1959 Mayor Leighton and City Councilmen City or Port Townsend City hall wear Madam and Gentlemen: ;:e herewith present our request for permission to move our underground gasoline storage tan s from their present location near our office to a safer and more logical location 8-feet eas 6'the center line of our 607 ',water Street Building on the Madison Street side. The two pumps would be located approximately 12-feet east of the building. They would be installed an a concrete island that would protedt the underground tanks and connecting pipe lines. In their present position, these tanks are subject to being lifted out of the ground by extreme high tides, breaking the pipe lines and causing spillage. Councilman Siebenbaum made a motion seconded by Councilman Sullivan that the first reading be considers the second reading and the third reading be by title only. Motion carried. THIRD READING AND PASSAGE Ordinance Wo. 1363 was read for the third time by title only and it was moved by Councilr. Avery seconded by Councilman Lindsey that urdinanee No. 1383 do now pass. A]+D OLD BUSINESS reported on toe lighting o' the entrance sign to Port Townsend Councilman Roy Lindsey said Puget Power would run poles and wires to the sign at no cos to the City, but the City :would be obligated to pay $171.00 for work and materials in the actual lighting, including three flood lights from the gound up. Cost to the City would also mule be a maximum of :60.00 per year for electricity. After some discussion the Council agreed to give more study to the proposal of the lighting of the city entrance sign as requested by the chamber of commerce. CounciRth reported on the vandalism that was getting out of hand saying that pulling up breaking off, turning around and even sawing off of city signs, and the Korth beach area street lights were being shot out. Street Superintendent Arey said that considerable expense was involved in replacing the sign posts. Councilman Lindsey said the lights at the north Beach Area were being shut off at night on account of the vandalism and that the Pater Street Lights were being filled :with water on windy rafney days which caused the glass bowls to fill and when at a certain level broke the light bulbs. .,CCEPTAVOE OF BID W.T.R. 00 7 City Engineer Locker said that all bids 'red been checked and suggested that the council accept the low bid of 030,507.36 by J. P. Suraca of Seattle. Councilman Siebenbaum made a motion seconded by Councilmen Laffevtp that the bid of J. P. Suraca of Seattle bid of '30,507.36 be accepted and that the bid bonds and certified checks of the unsucessful bidders be returned. Motion Carried.
