Our reasons for this action are several. It is our thinging that one of Port Townsends most valuable assets is its many points of historic interest, among which our City Jail is promident. It is a definite attraction to tourist visitors in our city. We believe we should capitalize on these assets, that they should all be made available as a lure to more tourists. Anything we can offer to hold visi ing tourists in our city a few hours longer will result in their spending a few more dollars with us and will do just that much to improve our local economy. Inasmuch as the jail is not being used, and as the use of it as a tourist attraction would entail no particular expense to the city, we hold the hope that you will grant this request. 1'le believe a big majority o. our citizens will react favorably to such action by our city government. Yours very truly, Port townsend Chamber of Commerce A. Clemens Grady, President By Paul IV. Thiele, Secretary From General Petroleum Corporation. to-witt: August 6, 1958 The Honorable Mayor Marilou Leighton City Hall Port Townsend, Washington Madam: Effective December 8, 1958, Ordinance No. 1233 granting to General Petroleum Corporation the right to construct, maintain, operate and remove pipe lines across certain streets in th of Port Townsend, will expire. Please advise us of the necessary steps to take to accomplish this purpose. Respectfully, C.W. Mason Assistant Operating Manager Mayor Leighton reffered the above communication to the Street & Sevier Committee. From Jefferson County Department Of Highways: towitt: Del Guzzie Brothers 1020 East Front St. Port Angeles, Washington. Dear Sir: I have made a inspection of pipe laying contract this morning, 'Wednesday August 6th and Z found that the progress is very slow and it is doubtful in my mind that the contract will be completed on time. The equipment that is handling the pipe is inadiauit and the pipe is being dragged across the ground damaging it and we will not tolerate this. Some other method of handling the pipe will have to be made. (Section B.Q7 States Highway specifications 1957). Sincerely, Ronald Wilder City Engineer. The City Clerk commented on the above communication that it was a copy of a letter that was sent to the Del Guzzie 3rothers on the recent pipe line contract.
