CONSIDERATION OF OTHER CLAIMS Olympic Gas & 'Appliance Co. 3 July 1957 Honorable Mayor and City Council Fort Townsend, Washington. Gentlemen: On approximately 25 March 1957, a sizeable loss became evident in the distribution of our gas throught the city. Between that date and June 5, 1957, when a break was located underground at 13th and Sheridan and liability of the City of Port Townsend established a loss of 13,190 gallons of butane gas was sustained by this company. Allowing a normal loss of IOp, this still leaves us with an abnormal loss of 11,871 gallons of butane gas. During that time a minimum of 120 man hours was spent by this company to locate the leak. - When the leak was located, it was found to have been caused by a grader being operated by the City Street Department of Port Townsend, which in cutting a drainage ditch along 13th street, hooked a gas service, breaking it from the main and also at the house. Both breaks were sufficiently .deep underground that it was necessary to excavate in order to locate them. The Grader operator stated that, at the time they brought the line up, it was their opinion they had hooked a water line and as a result the gas company was not notified.. We hereby make claim against the City of Port Townsend for $1,661.94,our cost on the 11,871 gallons of butane gas, plus $240.00, for the 120 hours of labor at $2.00 per hour, for a total sum of %,901.94.
