MINUTES OF REGULAR SESSION OF APRIL 2, 1957 CONTINUED:
Honorable Mayor and City Council
City of Port Townsend
Jefferson County, Washington
Gentlemen:
The City Water Superintendent has advised in his letter of 28 March 1957,that a petition
has been received by your Council requesting that the U. S. Navy owned water line which
connects to the mains of your system at Keogan's Corner be purchased for inclusion in
your distribution system. The intent of this proposed purchase is understood to be for the
purpose of effecting water service to a considerable number of additional customers.
Under the present operating and service conditions the Indian Island Annex doei not
receive, at all times sufficient water to meet the needs of the personnel living on the
premises and the industrial activities. It has been necessary many times during the past
year to supplement the supply by producing our own wells which is expensive end not
considered to be entirely reliable and desirable. Any increase of the demand or use of the
water made available to this activity would place the station in an undesirable and
possibly emergency situation.
There are no plans at this time nor is it considered desirable in any respect for this
activity to recommend the disposition of all or any part of the present station water
system.
It is desired to express thanks and appreciation to this body and to Mr. Lyall Arey,
City Water Superinteddent for the courtesy and consideration extended to this activity
in this matter. This has been a service to this station.
Very truly yours,
F. C. Channell, Jr.
Commander, USN
Officer in Charge
