It was moved by Councilman Mueller that in as much as the new Police Car was included in the 1957 budget that the requisition be granted and that the City Clerk be authorized to issue a call for bids. The Motion was seconded by Councilman Sullivan and upon roll call i vote all seven Councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion carried. ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS - II RESOLUTION NO. 57-2 WHEREAS: It appears to the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, from certain matters presented by members of said Council that the Legislature of the State of Washington is now considering the acquisition by said State of the tract of land within the City of Port Townsend known as the Fort Worden reservation, and that a bill authorizing said stquisition is now before said legislature; and whereas it further appears that the best interests of the said City and said State, and of the Citizens thereof will be served by such acquisition at the earliest feasible date; and whereas it'£urthers appe ars'that the State of Washington will exercise proper discretion and judgement in the utilization of said property: BE IT RESOLVED that the City of Port Townsend, through its Mayor and City Council assembled, approves and commends the acquisition by the State of Washington of that tract of land situated in the City of Port Townsend and known as the Fort Worden reservation,and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that said approval Is given without reservation or qualification as to the purpose for which the said State may utilize the said Fort Worden reservation. To: Honorable Mayor and City Council Port Townsend, Washington Dear Sirs: I have found it advantageous to accept a position elsewhere and it is with the deepest regret that I find it necessary to tender my resignation to be eff8otive February 28, 1957. I My stay in Port Townsend has been most pleasurable. I have made many friends and ties that I hope will not be severed. It has been an honor to have worked with the Honorable Mayor and City Council and to have served the people of the City of Port I Townsend. Yours very truly, (S) Keith F. Jones City Engineer. From Jefferson County Historical Society to -wit: HISTORIC BELL TOWER RESTORATION PROJECT 4 The history of a town and the story of it's advancement may be told by the landmarks which remain when improvements are made which render buildings and equipment obsolete. During the year 1951 the Jefferson County Historical Society voted to restore the :irtoric bell tower and prepare a °time capsule" to be opened on the 200 th anniversary of the founding of Port Townsend. This project we expect to complete in May 1957. April lst has been made the deadline for organizations to turn in their 1957 yearbook or other record of their society to be sealed in the capsule, for which privilege a t$5.00 donation to help in paying the cost will be expected. Individuals or a family may purchase a bell tower certificate for a minimum of 01.00. Any amount of family history may be written on the beck of the certificate. Anyone wishing tp place a picture(negatives only) with an historical explanation may do so. A donation of ,$2.50 is expected. A suitable program will comme,orste the finnishing of the bell tower and sealing of the capsule. Commander William Henry Jackson is Chairman of capsule material and will acceot your material and money at 1326 Jackson Street., Port Townsend, Washington. The Honorable Mayor Doctor George Bangerter Port Townsend, Washington Dear Doctor Bangerter: Attached are four copies of the Contract for municipal street lighting service for the City of Port Townsend for a five year period beginning February 8, 1957. Our present Contract expires February 7,1957, and I would appreciate securing the approval of the City of these contracts and all four copies signed and returned to me for acceptance by Puget Sound Power & Light Company, at which time, I will return signed and accepted copies of this contract for your files. If you have any further questions, please feel free to call on me or if at any time we can be of service to the City of Port Townsend, please call on us. Most Sincerely, (S) Philip L* Copps Local Manager Councilman Lindsey, Chairman of the Fire and Light Committee informed the Council that he had talked to Mr. Copps regarding the Contract and that as the cost was somewhat less then for the term of the previous contract he moved that the contract be accepted. The motion was seconded by Councilman Sullivan and upon'roll call vote all seven Council- men present voted in the affirmative and motion carried. SEWER EASEMENT THE GRANTORS, Jefferson County Port Commission, "owners in fee simple of the parcel of land -hereinafter described, for and in consideration of One and ffo/100 ($1.00) dollar in hand paid, hereby convey and grant unto the gRANTEE, CITY OF PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGt TON, a municipal Copporation, its successors and assigns an easement over a strip of land Twenj;y (20) feet in width across the following lands situate in the City of Port Townsend, Jefferson County, State of Washington, described as follows: Beginning o;i the Southern Boundary of t he Fort Worden reservation area at a point where said boundary connects with the North-easternly terminal point of Walnut Street in the City of Port Townsend, thence in a north -northeasterly direction for a distance of approximately Seven Hundred (7001) Feet along the East side of Road Number Two (2) of the Fort Worden Reservation to a point connecting with the main sewer trunk on said reservation, thence in an easterlyi-to the outfall of said sewer trunk in admiralty Inlet. For the purpose of constructing and maintaining a sewer thereon. Said Grantee shall have the right og ingress and egress over said strip of land for the purpose of constructing, maintaining and repairing all of the described sewer line, and over the described tract. PROVIDED that the said Grantee in accepting this easement binds itself, its successors and assigns to provide that mainteAnnneoand upkeep of said sewer and described pdrtion of the trunk line which is reasonably necessary for the total use imposed upon it, and hereby agrees to continue such maintenance and upkeep so long as said Grantee makes use of this easement.
