The above communication was referred to the Water Committee, the Water Supt, the City Attorney and the City Engineer. From Standard Oil Company of California to -wit: August 22, 1956 City Council City of Port Townsend Port Townsend, Washington Gentlemen: As you know, we now have a service station on the corner of Water and Adams Streets In Port Townsend. We are giving consideration to rebuilding this unit. Our frontage on Water Street is rather limited and we thought there might be a chance of leasing the end of Adams Street from '.,star Street to the water. This would provide more frontage for the station for ingress and egress and allow us to place our building nearer Adams Street. If this could be worked out, the other property owner could be given a permanent easement to use this street as it would be paved and kept open. No buildis would ng be placed on the portion of Adams Street leased from the City since it is contemplated this property would be used for parking and ingress and egress to the station. If you is be requireddtoopay.. Please consider er this ,theease periodtof theknow proposal oamount leaserent e on a15-yra basis as that is our depreciation period for our investment. Please understand this is only tentative, as any improvements or leases made on this property must be approved by our home office. We would appreciate your consideration of the foregoing. UNFINNISH0 AND I'ii:4T BUSINESS Councilman Steve informed the Council that the Jefferson County Herald had .printed a letter from a reader that cast aspersions on old City Ordinances and on City Officials, and that he felt he should defend the Council against attack by someone just in the City to make a gttick buck. City attorney Stevens told the Council that he felt Councilman Steve Yves justified in his attitude and that the matter would be fixed up in the next Edition of the Herald. City Attorney Stevens then explained the history of the .Sather Park addition to the Council and informed them that in tracing it down he had £ounidthat one year after the City secured Sather Park the City Council had at that time passed a resolution_ which dedicated Sather Park as a Public Park to be known henceforth as Sather Park. He also stated that there were two ways possible to break the trust status, one by taking it to the Supreme Court or by act of the Legislature. He further stated that it would cost the City money to take it to the Supreme Court and it was probably better to see if we could get the Legislature to act. Councilman Steve asked if the City could still go to Court if the Legislature did not act. TheCity Attorney told him yes we could. As there was n6 further business to come before the Council at this time,it was moved by Councilman Siebenbsum and seconded by Councilman Steve that the meeting adjourn. !lotion carried. MAYOR ATTEST:
