Daly, reported that Mr. Neal, District Forest Supervisor of the Olympic National Forest, had visited his (Mr. Daly's) office, relative to the proposed logging operations upon the Big Quilcene Ahiver watershed in the vicinity of the intake dam of the Olympic Gravity Water System, and had explained rather fully, the proposed plan of logging. Officers of the National Paper Proudets Company had been informed of conditions existing and a meeting had been arranged for this date, at which proper representatives of the Forest Service; National Paper Products Company, and the City, were to have been shown, in a trip to the watershed, how the proposed logging operations were to be conducted, but due to the inability of some of the interested parties to attend, this meeting had been postponed. It is, however, expected that such a meeting will be held before anything shall be done toward the logging of the area. Mayor Hirtzler reported the steps taken too date by him, as representative of this City, to prevent the logging of this area and jeopardizing of this city's water supply. A general informal discussion was carried on among those present, with particular emphasis being placed upon the seriousness of the possible outcome of such a logging progra as it affected this City, by reason of an insufficient or polluted water supply. Call for Bids It was moved by Councilman Lewis and seconded by Councilman Maroldo, that the City Clerk be authorized to publish a call for bids to paint the South and West sides of the City Hall Building, said bids to be received at the office of the City Clerk up to 5:00 P.M., July 2, 1940, and presented at the regular meeting on that date. It vies recommended that such call for bids ask for alternate bids from each contractor on a basis of labor a: materials, or labor only, and that bids on the basis of labor and material, should specify the type and quality of materials furnished. Motion carried. It was felt by the members present that bids should be called at this time in order that sufficient time could be taken to consider the work to be done and the cost thereof before a contract for same should be let, and still enable the contractor to take advantage of the most favorable period as regards weather to do this work. ADJOURNKENT No further business appearing for consideration by the Council at this time, it was moved by Councilman Maroldo, and seconded by Councilman Lewis, that the Council to now adjourn.
