Neal, Forest Supervisor, was presented and read as follows: OLYMPIC NATIONAL FOREST SERVICE April 17 1940 Olympia, Wash. P Jas. G. McCurd' , Secretaryy, Port Townsend hamber of Commerce, Port Townsend, Wash. Dear Mr. McCurdy- Reference is made to your letter of April 8, and to my discussion with tAessrs. Welch and Bugge in Port Angeles April 15. Vie are now in the process of preparing plans for the harvesting of the National forest timber in east Jefferson and east Clallam counties. Our data indicate that vie can cut under recognized forestry practices, on an annual sustained yield basis, 15 million feet of timber per year from that area. These figures include the timber on the Port Townsend watershed. Before this plan is submitted to the Regional office in Portland for approval we want to discuss the question you have raised, with you thoroughly. My suggestion is that representatives of the City, t he Chamber of Commerce, the National Paper Products Company and the Olympic Forest should spend a day or more going over the area to study conditions and that between us we try to work out a logging system that will be satisfactory to everyone. Your Chamber might sponsor this and let us ]mow what date will be agreeable to you. Very truly yours, Carl B.
