HomeMy WebLinkAbout00644 MINUTES OF PREVIOUS SESSION■ 618 REGULAR SESSION OF THE CITY MARCH Port Townsend, Washington March 19th, 1940 The CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port Townsend, Washington met in regular session on Tuesday, March 19th, 1940, at 7:30 o'clock, P.M., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Mayor Hirtzler presiding. ROLL CALL Officers and members answering present for Roll Call were: Mayor H. L; Hirtzler; City Attorney W. J. Daly; City Clerk C. F. Christian, and Councilmen Wm. Lammers, Sr; Phillip E. Brown; J. F. Maroldo, and C. E. Richards. MINUTES OF PREVIOUS SESSION Minutes Approved It was moved by Councilman Maroldo, seconded by Councilman Phillip Brown, that the minutes of the previous session be approved as written. Motion carried. REPORTS OF OFFICERS City Treasurer The monthly report of the City Treasurer for the month of February, 1940, was presents and read and referred to the Finance Committee. Water Superintendent The monthly report of the Water Superintendent for the month of February, 1940, was presented and read and referred to the Water Committee. The report of the Water Superintendent showing the flow of water thru the City meters for the week ending March 13, 1940, was presented and read and ordered filed. BUILDING PERMITS Requests for permission to build were presented and read as follows: From H. A. Radley, to -wit: - Port Townsend, Washington March 13, 1940 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council Port Townsend, Washington Gentlemen: Permission is requested to erect a four room, frame; dwelling, approximately 261 x 28t, on my property situate SJ of MY; of SE4, Sec. 4, Twp. 30 N., Range 1 IV; at an estimated cost of $300.00 for materials. Respectfully submitted, H. A. Radley From P. D. Benson, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington To the Honorable Mayor and City Council March 18, 1940 Port Townsend, Washington Gentlemen: Permission is requested to erect a four room, frame, dwelling, approximately 241 x 28t, on my property situate Lot 8,'Block 14, Plummer's Addition; at an estimated cost of $350.00 for materials. Benson Permits Granted It was moved by Councilman nichards and seconded by Councilman Phillip Brown, that the permits, as requested in the foregoing applications, be granted. Motion carried. C014MUNICATIOUS From Mrs. Skinner, to -wit: Sat. loth ITo The City Councilmen Dear Sirs: I had a fall trying to step onto the sidewalk which is very high on corner of Clay and Tyler St, it was very dark, and as I am quite heavy, I went down with a thud, scuffed the sleeve of my coat sprained my arm, bruised myself, torn hosiery, and hurt myself inwardly, spraining my back. I have noticed there are a lot of high steps at the end of the sidewalks, there- fore a few dollars spent may save many dollars. Brown was absan because of illness, he would like to report that to his definite knowledge, Councilman Robt. Brown had already remedied the condition referred to by Mrs. Skinner. From W. H. Carder, to' -wit: March 11, 1940 Mr. C. F. Christian City Clerk Port Townsend, Washington Dear Mr. Christian: Through you I wish to bring to the attention of the city council the fact that several times I hava complained about stray dogs running loose on the school property --dogs that are not licensed and are nothing but stray mongrels. During the past year vie have had several youngsters bitten by these dogs, and in order to free the district of any liability that might be involved should a lawsuit develop, I again ask that something be done to relieve this matter of stray dogs in the town. Dear Sirs: - It has been brought to the attention of the Jefferson County Central Labor Council that a certain lady appeared before your honorable body in regards to being depuized for a position at the roller bowl skating rink andyour action was not favorable to the parties involved in this matter. As we have found these parties to be of a good reputation and honorable citizens, and wish you to investigate this matter further before making any further decisions in this matter, I remain, Fraternally yours, James P. It was moved by Councilman Maroldo', seconded by Councilman Phillip Brown, that the City Clerk be instructed to write the Jefferson County Central Labor Council explaining that it was the opinion of the members of the City Council that the members of the Central Labor Council had been misinformed, and stating the action taken to date. Motion carried. From Crosby Sand & Gravel Company, to -wit: March 6th, 1940 City Councily Port Tovmssnd, Washington. Gentlemen: Confirming verbal understanding by our Mr. E. E. McClure, regarding the moving of your pipe line, if and when it is necessary for the operation of our pit at Hadlock, from that portii of the County Road from extension of Randolph St., to the intersection of County Road project No. 2. Moon WAM:D President It was moved by Councilman Maroldo, seconded by Councilman Lammers, that the City withdraw its objection presented to the County Commissioners, to the vacation of certain streets at Hadlock as requested by the Crosby Sand and Gravel Company, providing it was understood by the County Commissioners that the Crosby Sand & Gravel Company would provide for the moving of the City's water pipes at such time as they deemed it necessary, as acknowledged in the foregoing letter. Motion carried. From Department of Highways A letter from the State Department of Highways showing the City, of Port Townsend's January allotment of Gas Tax Funds to be $597.87, was read and ordered filed. From American Municipal Association City Clerk acknowledged the receipt of a Washington News Letter, a service of the Association of Washington Cities, and stated that the same would be available in the City Clerk1s office to any Councilman so desiring. i I u
