HomeMy WebLinkAbout00638 MINUTES (14)u REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY, 20, 1940 Port Townsend, Washington Tuesday, February 20, 1940 The CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, met in regular session this 20th day of February, 1940, at 7:30 o'clock, P.M., in the Council Chambers in the City Hall Mayor Hirtzler presiding. ROLL CALL Officers and members answering present to Roll Call were as follows: Mayor H. L. Hirtzler; City Attorney, W. J. Daly; City Clerk, C. F. Christian, and Councilmen C. E. Richards; Robt. W. Brown; Wm. Lammers, Sr., and Dennis Sullivan. READING OF MINUTES Minutes Approved It was moved by Councilman Robt. Brown, seconded by Councilman Sullivan, that the minutes of the previous session be approved as read. Motion carried. REPORTS OF OFFICERS Treasurer's Report The monthly report of the City Treasurer was read and referred to the Finance Co:msitte Water Superintendent The monthly report of the Water Superintendent was read and referred to the Water Committee. Report of the Water Superintendent showing the flow of water thru main line meters for the week ending February 13, 1940, was read and ordered filed. REPORTS OF COMMITTEES Councilman Lammers reported for the Water Committee on the matter of the contemplated Hastings Avenue and Fillmore Street inprovements, and stated that the Committee was in favc of these lines as requested. BUILDING PERMITS Requests for permission to build were presented and read as follows: From Marvin E. Clough, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington February 19, 1940 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council Port Townsend, Washington Gentlemen: Permission is requested to erect a five room, frame, dwelling, approximately 261 x 34on my property situate Lot 3, Block 128, L. B. Hastings 1st Addition; at an estimated cost of $500.00 for materials. Respectfully submitted, Marvin E. From Stevens and Starrett, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington February 20, 1940 Gentlemen: Permission is requested to tear down about 30 feet of the rear, or southerly, portion of the building situate 941 Water Street; and to reseal the end thus left. Permits Granted.' It was moved by Councilman Sullivan, seconded by Councilman Richards, that the permits requested by Mr. Clough; Mr. Burg; Mr. Clements, and Mr. Howser, be granted. Motion carrie COMMUNICATIONS From the Department of Highways, to -wit: Olympia February 8, 1940 Mr. C. F. Christian City Clerk Port Townsend, Washington Dear Sir: The City of Port 'Townsend's December allotment, based on January collections, in accordance with the provisions of Chapter 181, Laws of 1939, amounts to $647.11. With a little advertizing a showing how Port Townsend is stragetically located in the center of the Sport Salmon Fishing Area, a greatly number of sportsmen would visit this city.
