Upon roll call, Officers and Members answering present were: Mayor 11. L. Hirtzler, City Attorney 71. J. Daly, City Clerk C. F. Christian, and Councilmen Phillip Brown, J.F. Idaroldo, Clarence E. REPORTS OF OFFICERS Water Superintendent The report of the Superindentant of the tauter Department for the month of July, 1939, w rend and ordered referred to the ;rater Committee. City Treasurer The report of the City Treasurer for the month of July, 1939, visa read and ordol•ed referred to the Finance Committee. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES ;rater Committee Councilman Richards reported the findings of the Committee on the application of the Crosby Lighterage Company, and the petition of the residents of Chimacum for water service, stating that, in his opinion, the cost under the presents rates of the City for the amount of water requested by the Crosby Lighterage Company, ^could undoubtedly make it prohibitive for the purpose stated. He recommended that the 4rater Department develops tenative plans for supplying water to the Chimacum residents, as it would be but a short time before the present system at Chimacum would be useless, and moved that the Prater Superintendent pro- ceed to work up plans to create a WPA project to install the necessary line. This motion was seconded by Councilman Lammers, and upon roll call vote, all five Councilmen present voted in the affirmative, and the motion vras declared carried. Police and License Co:mnittse The Police and License Committee reported favorably upon the application of C.11.011,loari for license to operate a for hire car "taxi." It visa moved by Councilman Maroldo and seconded by Countilman Robt. Broom, that the said license be granted. Liotion carried. Building Committee The Building Committee, to whom had been referred the matter of the application of Paul De Champlain to erect a service station upon his property in the Eisenbeis Addition for investigation, reported that they could see no reason for not granting the said permit, whereupon, it visa moved by Councilman hichards and seconded by Councilman Lammers, that the permit be granted. Motion carried. Also reporting favorably upon the application of Mrs. Siebenbaum to alter and renew th front of her building on Taylor Street. It was moved by Councilman Lm=ers, seconded by Councilman Yaroldo, that this permit be also granted. Motion carried. BUILDING Pal-iI'TS Requests for permission to build were presented and read to the Council as follows: From Dr. H. G. Plat, to -wit: Port To'nsend, Washington August 10, 1939 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council Port 'Townsend, Washington Gentlemen: Permission is requested to erect an eight room, frame, dwelling, approx- imately 351 x 451, on my property situate Lots 5 and 7, Block 21, Plurmnerrs Addition, at an estimated cost of .$4000.00, for materials. Brown, seconded by Councilman Phillip Brown, that, the said requisitions be granted. Upon roll call vote, all five Councilmen presented voted in awi4:y the affirmative, and the motion vras declared carried. UNFINISHED AND NEIV BUSINESS • . Re: Fire Hall Approach xT, The matter of the unsafe condition of the outside driveway approach to the Fire Hall, visa brought before the Council, and after short informal discussion, it was roved by Council- man Robt. Brown, and seconded by Councilman Maroldo, that in view of the necessity of immediate action in the matter, the Building Committee be given the power to act as itsay.• fit to have this taken care of. Upon roll call vote, all five Councilmen present voted in theaffirmative, and the motion was declared carried. Re: Fire Engine Outside City J 9 Councilman Richards asked as to the possibility of taking the fire engine outside the City limits in A@sponse to calls, and was informed that this practice vras prohibited by state " law, and that such action would make the City liable in case of fire within the City at such a time.
