a good deal of laughter and wise cracks, and tended to put the new Councilman more or less

3, Councilman Sullivan asked if it would be possible to have a street light
installed at the intersectidn of the State highway and the road to the paper mill, near
Verriers store, as several cars had been "in the ditch" because of inability of the driver
to determine just where the ends of the fill for crossing the ditch paralelling the
highway were.
The Mayor and the City Clerk offered to look into the matter and find out if
the budget for the year 1939 would provide sufficient funds for the installation and
maintenaned of additional street lights.
®ouncilman Sullivan also aal•_ed if the Police Department had as yet been put
upon a Civil Service basis, and was informed that the City Council had not seen fit up to
the present time to pass the Ordinance necessary to create a Civil Service Commission for
the City of Port Townaond.
