That the Highway Dept. had transmitted $5182.80, as reimbursement for
Highway Construction.
Shell oil Company.

That the Ylar Dept. had given notice of extension of Water
Contract for another year.
State Examiner's Report:
Also that the State Examiner's report had just been received,
The Clerk then read the Examiner's comments on the financial condition of the City, and the
Report was ordered filed.
CHIEF OF POLICE AUGUST REPORT.
The report of the Chief of Police covering the month of August, 1938, visa presents
read, and ordered filed.
Councilman Paul H. Sather arrived at this time and took his seat in the Council.

Water Committee:
Councilman Naughton, Chairman of the 7later Committee, reported that
no investigation by the whole committee had been made on the damage claim of M. W. Porter,
but that a report would be rendered at the next meeting of the Council.

Invitation from Paper Mill Local No. 175.
A communication, signed by 1Lr. E. W. Burns, president of Part Townsend Local No.
175, International Brotherhood, Pulp, Sulphite and Paper mill Workers, extending an invita-
tion to the members of the City Council to attend a meeting and hear the address of Sohn P.
Burke, President of the said organization, on September 11, 1938, at 2 o'clock PIT% , visa
presented, read, and ordered filed.
Bulletin of lashington Cities.
The Clerk reported receipt of a bulletin of the Association of Washington Cities,
relating principally to the proposed legislative program of the Association, from which the
Clerk read excerpts believed to particularly Affect.the`interests of the city. The said
bulletin eras ordered filed for readt reference.
BUILDING PERMITS.
Applications for Building Permits were presented, read and disposed of as follows:

i :;; 1 , x { •; City Attorney Daly called attention to the high praise given the city by the State
Examiner, for the excellent service given with the very limited receipts available for the
",eceasary functions of government and he ventured the statement that no city in the State was
Sreceiving as much, dollar for dollar of their tax money, as the citizens of Port Townsend.
