Didricksen, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington, January 3, 1938 To the Honorable mayor and City Council, City of Port Townsend, Washington. Gentlemen:- Z herewith apply for an Operator's License to operate Pin,:Ball or Marble Game machines or devices, under the terms and provisions of City of Port Townsend Ordinance No. 1090. Gentlemen: - I herewith make application for an Operator's License to operate Pin Hall and or marble Game machines or devices within the city limits of the City of Port Townsend, in com_Dliance with the terms and provisions of Ordinance No. 1090 of said City. Check far $250.00 is herewith attached. Resoectfully submitted, M. R. Strong. Granted: It was moved by Councilman Naughton and seconded by Councilman Lafferty f the said licenses be granted. Upon Roll Call vote, all five councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. REPORTS OF OFFICERS. Letter from Attorney Daly, relative to proposed traffic code. Explanatory to a proposed traffic ordinance, City Attorney Daly submitted the following letter, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington, January 4th, 1938 Honorable Wayor and City Council, City of Port Townsend. Gentlemen: - At your order, I transmit herewith for consideration a draft of a proposed or- dinance providing a traffic code for the City of Port Townsend. The attached effort generally follows the provisions of Chapter 188 of the Laws of Washington, 1937, with such changes, omissions and additions, as should meet the present and future needs of the city insofar as traffic regulation and safety features are concerns I realize that several items will become the subject of bitter strife between council- men and between citizens and it has been the thought of the writer to raise as many contmo- versial matters, now, as I could thinF of, and thus stimulate sufficient thought and action among all the people of Port Townsend as might ultimately result in a document that will be the bestest for the mostest." The draft as presented has been gone thru item by item by the undersigned in the pres- ence of Councilman Naughton, Judge Alexander, Officer Bolt, the Chief of Police,and Patrol- man Bartl. Delaney Health Officer, for 6 me. 75.00 Chief of Police report for December, 1937. The report of the Chief of Police for the month of December, 1937, was pros read, and ordered filed. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. Street Leases, and Timber on Streets. Councilman Sather, Chairman of the Street Committee, to whom had been referred the applications of Lianresa Hall and St. John's Hospital for lease of streets, and of K. Sanderson for permission to cut timber in the city streets, reported that his committee was not yet ready to report on the matters. Highway signs., Councilman Sather further reported that the committee was looking into the matter of erecting traffic signs which may be required along the State Highway. COMMUNICATIONS. Assoc'n of Washington Cities. The only communication presented at this session visa a circular letter from the Association of Washington, reciting the accomplishments of the Association during the past year. This letter was read by the Clerk, and ordered filed. REQUISITIONS. Requisitions for supplies for sundry departments were presented, read and disposed of as follows: For City Attorney, to -wit: 1 Ream Typewriter paper; 1 Box tw carbon paper For Fire Department, to -wit: 275 ft, 3/4" rope, for hose tower. For Street Dept., to -wit: 40 sacks cement. It was moved by Councilman Naughton and seconded by Councilman Ammeter that the said requisitions be granted. Upon Roll Call vote, all five councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. ORDINANCES' AND RESOLUTIONS. s, Civil Service Ordinance. No second. i Read for 2nd Reading. {{ There being no second to the said motion, the City Clerk then read the ordinance in full for the second reading. 3rd Redding by Title: I - It was moved by Councilman Lafferty and seconded by Councilman Sather that the third reading be by title only. Upon Roll Call vote, all five Council- y , men present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. {A motion to pass lost. The Clerk read the said ordinance by title only for the third reading, whereupon it was moved by Councilman Lafferty and seconded by Councilman Sather € that ordinance do now pass. Upon roll call vote, Councilman Naughton voted in the affirm ! ative and Councilmen Ammeter, Lafferty, Sather and Lewis in the negative, and motion was tj declared lost.
