ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS.
Resolution to Allow
Highway Expenditures.
The Maintenance branch of the Department of Highways submitted a statement of the
costs of painting a traffic stripe on the three miles of state highway within the city lim-
its, in the amount of $41.29, and requested that the City Council adopt a resolution author
izing the expenditure and transfer of this money from Highway Funds.
In accordance with the request, City Attorney Daly prepared a resolution to that
effect and the same was presented and read, as follows:
R E S G L U T I 0 11.
WHEREAS, it appears to the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, that
the Highway Department of the State of Washington, has expended the sum of $41.29 for the
purpose of painting a traffic stripe on State Road No. 9, within the limits of the City of
Port Townsend, and,
WHEREAS, such expenditure is a proper charge against Secondary Highway Funds to be
credited to the said city,
BE IT THEREFORE RESOLVED, that it is the sense of this Council that the State Treasure
of the State of Washington, charge said amount of $41.29 to the Secondary Highway Funds to
be credited to the City of Port Townsend, , and
to credit the said amount to the Highway Department of the State of ashington, under the
provisions of Chapter 187, Laws of Washington, 1937, and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the City Clerk of the City of Port Townsend, transmit
three copies of this resolution to the Director of the Department of Highways of the State
of Washington.
It was moved by Councilman Naughton and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the said
resolution be adopted. Upon Roll Call vote, all five Councilmen present voted in the af-
firmative and motion was declared carried.
The said resolution was then signed by the Mayor mnd atteeted.by the City Clerk.
UNFINISHED AND NEW BUSINESS.
President's Visit.
E. Morris Starrett,appeared before the Council with the statement that President
Franklin D. Roosevelt was contemplating a visit to the Pacific Northwest and to the Olympic
Peninsula and suggested that a resolution be adopted inviting the president to either arriv4
or depart through Port Townsend.
It was moved by Councilman Naughton and seconded by Councilman DeLeo that the
Mayor and the City Attorney be directed to prepare such resolution for presentation to the
President. Motion•'_declared carried.
Copies of Budget to Councilmen:
At the request of the mayor, the City Clerk informed
the Councilmen that the budget copies placed upon their desks was to all intent and purpose
the preliminary budget for 1938 and that if any additions or increases were desired that th
matter should be taken up with the Mayor at once as no suoh-additianecor.:.izioreasee could be
made after notice had been published.
SIDEWALK ESTIMATES.
Engineer R. J. Young, who had been employed to draw estimates for
construction of sidewalks on Adams and Washington Streets, now submitted his findings, but
inasmuch as this is not an official city project, no copy of saidestimatea were filed with
the City Clerk.

Upon motion of Councilman Lafferty, secondedby Councilman Naughton, th
Council voted to adjourn.

The CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, met in regular session
this 21st day of September, 1937, at 8:00 o'clock p.m., in the Council chambers of the
city council, Mayor H. L. Hirtzler presiding.
ROLL CALL.
Upon Roll Call, those answering present were mayor H. L. Hirtzler, City Attorney
W. J. Daly,. City Clerk C. F. Christian, and Councilmen Robt. W. Brown, W. S. Lafferty, Frei
0. Lewis and Peter Naughton; Councilman Ammeter arriving later in the session.
MINUTES APPROVED.
The minutes of the regular session of Sept. 7, 1937, were read and approved as
read.
Councilman Ammeter Arrives.
Councilman R. E. Ammeter arrived at this time and took his seat in the Council.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS.
Budget Notice:
The City Clerk reported that the Mayor had filed his official copy of the prelim-
inary budget estimates, with the exception of the budget for the City Street Lepartment,
that due notice of same was being published in the Port Townsend, and that taxpayers may
secure a copy of same at the City Clerkts office.
Water Supt. August Report'.
The r sport of the Water Superintendent for the month of August, 1937, was pre-
sented, read and ordered filed.
Main Line Meter Readings:
The report of the Water Superintendent, showing the flow of water through the
main line meters for the period ending Sept 21/37, was presented, read and ordered filed.
COMMUNICATIONS.

Communication from Mrs. Vivian Woods was presented and read, as follows:

Gentlemen:
Permission is requested to enclose and use that portion of McClelland Street
adjacent to my property; Lots 7 and 8, Block 289, Eisenbeis Addition. This part of the
street is in a gulch and is not used for street purposes.

Gentleman: -
Permission is requested to construct a metal marquee (or awning) on the Water
street side of the building at 1001-1005 Water Street, being that portion of the said buil-
ding to be occupied by the Safeway stores. Marquee will be constructed in conformity with
all city ordinances.
