Dear Mrs. Baler: Your attention is called to the fact that, by an ¢ct,of the Congress o the United States, approved by the President on the 23rd day of August, 1935, all banks which are menioers of the 'Federal Reserve System and all insured non-member banks are, from and after the 23rd clay of August, A.D. 1937, prohibited from paying interest on any demand deposit; and that from and after the aforesaid date, all provisions of any existing con- tract entered into by this bank as a depositary of public funds for the payment of interest on demand deposits, are abrogated by reason of the impossibility oR performance arising frog its, if any, pnyable on demand thereafter received by change in the laws; and that all depos this bank, inust be made subject to the condition that no interest is to be paid thereon, nothwit'nstanding the existence of any contract therefor that may have heretofore been on- tered into. Therefore, you are requested to secure from your Financo Corunittee a resolution vaca- ting'ary previous resolutions relating to the rate of interest upon demand public funds de- posited in accordance therewith in this bank and fling the rate of "no percent" or zero. Unless this action is taken by your Finance Committee, this bank.will be unable to continue to net as a depositary for your denand deposits of public funds. ORDINiVIXES AND ,tw_SOLLXIOl;S. Pilots Franchise Ordinance. The franchise, presented by the Puget Sound Pilots.at the last meeting of the City Council, granting'the privilege to construct a wharf or pier on Jackson Street, and at that time read in fu',-1 _or the first reading, was now brought up for further action. The said nronosed ordinance was again read in full for the second reading. 3rd Reading: It was moved by Councilman Sather and seconded by Councilman Bro wn that the 3rd reading be by title only. Upon roll call vote, all four councilmen present voted in the affirmative and i..;otion was declared carried. Passage: The clerk read the ordinance by title only for the third reading, whew - upon it •eras moved by Councilman laughton and seconded by Councilman Sather that the Ordinance do now pass.
