Applications for Building Permits were presented, read, and disposed of as follows: From August ';loiter, towit: port Townsend, Washington, July 19, 1937 'To the Honorable Liayor and City Council, Port Townsend, ,,Ishington. Gentlemen: - Permission is requested to make the following repairs to the building situate on the south side of 'Hater Street, between Tyler and FilLnero Streets (formerly occupied by the N.L.Short Llutor CO.), and recently owned by the heynolds estate, to -wit: Lay new floor; new doors; reinforce foundations, and repair Poof. Respectfully submitted, Irwin G. Mosier It was moved by Councilman Ammeter and seconded by Councilman Naughton that the said permits be granted. Motion declared carried. CO:.:MUNICAT IONS. Thomas' Street Leases. Applications for the lease of parts'of certain streets were presented and read, a follows: Port Townsend, Tlashington, June 30, 1937 To the Honorable 1•:ayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Washington. Gentlemen:- Annllcation is hereby made to lease the street end of Benton Street, being that part of Benton Street lying south of •hater Street and running into Port Townsend harbor. A payment of $2.00 per year is offered for the privilege sought. Respectfully submitted, J. I.I. Thomas. For renewal, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington, July 20, 1937 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Washington. Gentlemen: - Application is hereby made for a renewal of the lease of the street ends of Cal- houn and Casa Streets, being that part of the said streets lying between vlator Street and Port Townsend Bay, at a yearly rental of $2.00 for each of said streets. Respectfully submitted, J. L.. Thomas. It tins moved by Councilman 11auGhton and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the said leases be granted. In a discussion which followed, Councilman De Leo protested against the leasing of Calhoun Street in that it visa detrimental to his interests and to the interests of his tenant; Councilman DeLoo further stating that he visa the owner of the property on bot sides of the said Calhoun Street whole it is sought to be leased. After further discussion there visa a call for the question and upon roll call vote, Councilmen Naughton, Lafferty and Ammeter voted in the affirmative, Councilman De Leo voted in the negative and Councilman Lew- is visa excuded from voting. i;otion declared carried. REQUISITIONS. For 20 cords wood. A requisition from the City Hall Dept., asking for 20 cords of wood for the comin winter, was duly presented and read. It visa moved by Councilman Lafferty and seconded by Councilman Ilnughton that the requi- sition be granted and that the City Cleric be instructed to advertise for bids for 20 cords of live, sound, old growth wood, cut in 12 inch lengths and delivered at the city hall. Bids to be opened at the regular session of August 3, 1937. il:otion declared carried. ORDINAIiCES AiID RES0Lb1I0NS. Street Construction Resolution. Recess voted. I,:ayor Hirtzler stated that a resolution had been prepared relative to street work nd that a recess would be in order for the Council to look into the plans before a vote visa aken, whereupon it visa moved by Councilman Naughton and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that he Council recess for a few minuted. !:otion declared carried. Council reconvened, and Roll Call. Council reconvened at 9:30 o'clock p.m., and upon Roll Call those answering present were :layor Birtzler, City Attorney Daly, City Clerk Chris- tian, and Councilmen Naughton, Lafferty, Lewis and Ammeter. 1I 1 T ' a , 'CTa rw� 323 idinutes of Regular Session of July 20/37 continued. Street Project Resolution. Mayor Hirtzler now declared that consideration of a resolution concerning streets was in order and the resolution trss presented and read, as follows: RESOLUTION. WHEREAS, it appears to the City Council of the City of Port Townsend, that it is to the best interest of the people thereof that certain portions of the street system of said city be improved under city street specifications, which improvement is contemplate to include reshaping and draining, therefore, BE IT RESOLVED, by the City Council of the City of Port Townsend that the following streets of said city, that is to say: Jefferson Street from Cass Street to Van Buren Street; Jefferson Street from Harrison Street to Tyler Street; Pierce Street from Washington Street to Van Hess Street; Van Buren Street from Jefferson Street to Blaine Street; Harrison Street from Lawrence Street to Blaine Street, be improved under Chapter 187, Session Laws of Washington, 1937. Not adopted. It was moved by Councilman Naughton and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the said resolution be adopted. Upon Roll Call Vote, Councilmen Naughton and Lafferty voted the affirmative and Councilmen Ammeter: and Lewis in the negative. Motion declared lost. UNFINISHED ANDNEW BUSINESS. Matter of Speed Warning Signs.. Councilman Naughton brought up the matter of installing speed warning signs at certain locations, in the belief he stated, that such signs wore needed and finder the im- pression that sufficient funds had been budgeted in the PoliceDepartment to pay for same. The Clerk advised, however, that it eras very doubtful if such funds were available from the Police Department budget. A general discussion followed, but;no'cdefinite conclusion was reached at this time. ADJOURIUMM. It was moved by Councilman Naughton and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the Council Adjourn. Upon Roll Call vote, Councilmen Lafferty, Lewis and Ammeter voted in the affirmative and Councilman Naughton in the negative. Motion declared carried and Council adjourned. Attest: J� Liayor y Cleric
