Fort Worden, Washington.,
Dear Sir: -
An examination of the records and files in the office of the City Engineer of the
ag RR4XARYkiE1! City of Port Townsend fails to disclose that any written permission has
been received from the War Department authorizing the City .of Port Townsend to operate and
maintain its main wraten supply pipe line over and across lands of the United States Govern-
ment commonly known as the "Old Port Tavnsend Military Reservation".
I believe that your office has the maps and other information showing the location of
the pipe line crossing, and it is a simple task to prepare a proper metes and bounds descrip
tion of the land necessary for the city's use.
The City of Port Townsend has been actually using this land for a pipe line right-of-
way since 1904, and, when we began new construction in 1928 apparently were under the opinion
that a right-of-way had been previously secured.
lye will thank you if you will inform us what procedure will have to be followed in orde
that a regular written easement or license to cross can be obtained from the War Department.
very truly yours, C. F. Christian, City Clerk.
Said copy of letter was ordered placed on file.
