Upon Roll Call vote, all seven councilmen voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. INTRODUCTION OF NEW COUNCILMEN. The next order of business being Introduction of New Councilmen, Mayor Bangerter asked the retiring councilmen to vacate their seats and that the newly elected and quali- fied councilmen take their respective seats in the Council. Thereupon, retiring council- men Hirtzler, McGee, HeLso and Lammers tendered their respective seats to their successors in office, to -wit: to R. E. Ammeter, councilman for the 2nd Ward, Tony De Leo for the Third Ward and Robert W. Brown for the 4th Ward. Councilman Fred G. Lewis, Councilman for the lot ward," as unable to be present owing to illness. INTRODUCTION OF MAYOR. I Retiring Mayor Bangerter then stated that he took this occasion to heartily thank every one of the official family for the past ten years for their cooperation and assist- anee and pledged his support to the new administration. He then requested Mr. Lammers to { conduct Mayor Hirtzler to the Mayor's station and then tendered to him the gavel as the em- blem of authority, and his good wishes for a successful administration. Assuming the chair, Mayor Hirtzler first congratulated retiring Mayor Bangerter upon the the work accomplished during his several terms of office and praised him for his con- scientious conduct of the office as he saw it. With the statement that he would not make an extended inaugural speech, Mayor Hirtzler then read from notes substantially as follows: Friends: I want to take this opportunity of thanking the people of Port Townsend for their expression of confidence in electing me Mayor of the city. I want them to know that I intend to respect that confidence by doing everything I can to make this a better place in which to live. To do this I must have the full cooperation of the entire city council They, too, are elected by the people to serve them to sea that the entire community benefit , not any particular person or a certain part of the city. There will be no ruthless changes in the present personell of the city's employees. { Efficiency and strict performance of the cityts business will be necessary. Should any of those who are appointed to various positions violate their trust or neglect their duties, they will be replaced; each one doing his job to the best of his ability will make it possi ble for the Mayor and City Council and other city officials to do the best for the well being of all. Roll Call of New Council. A check of the new council and administrative officers show ed the following to be present: H. L. Hirtzler, Mayor; W. J. Daly, City Attorney; C. F. Christian, City Clerk; R. E. Ammeter, Councilman for 2nd Ward; Tony De Leo and Peter Naughto , councilmen for the 3rd Ward; W. S. Lafferty and Robert W. Brown, Councilmen for the 4th war and Paul H. Mayor Hirtzler further announced that in accordance with the wishes of the Library Board, he would appoint Mrs. Jennie E. Mc- Curdy as a member of the Board to succeed herself.
