Communication from Port Townsend Chamber of Commerce was presented and read as follow p To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Washington. ' Gentlemen: - The Chamber of Commerce, representing a large group of business men and propert owners of Port Townsend is vitally interested in your program for the Improvement of city streets -through immediate use of the State Gas Tax Funds recently allocated by the State Legislature. We approve the purchase of a new city street grader as a first step in this pro- gram. We trust a satisfactory arrangement has been made to partially pay for it from the State Gas Tax Fund allocation. May we now urge your immediate consideration and adoption of a street surfacing program with the balance of the funds now available for the biennium 1934-36? We know you fully realize what the dust and rough streets have cost city busines men and home owners in recent years. We agree that all city streets cannot be surfaced and have therefore submitted a tentative program covering general city arterial routes. We have been informed as follows regarding the State Gas Fund allocation: a. vlill total approximately $11,500 for 1935-36. b. Highway department allows $2,000 for grader. C. Highway department asks $3,000 allocated for state highway maintenance in city limits. d. Estimated that approximately $6,000 will be available immediately for city street surfacing. It is also estimated and your engineer can get the verified figures from the State Highway Department that six or eight miles of state approved, No. 2, oil surfacing nine (9 eighteen (18) or twenty-seven feet wide could be .laid in a sis-week period this summer should you favorably decide to submit some such program as follows for the State Highway Departments approval. Yours respectfully, PORT TOWNSEND CHAMBER OF COMMERCE. Clark Aldrich, President. Jas. G. McCurdy, Secretary. e' f ' I ;I. j. 11 (This sheet attached) Re: Suggested City Street Surfacing Program.
