Re: Designation of arterial streets.
7z r'ti At the last session of the City Council (May 14th) the street Committee, together
with the City Attorney, was authorized and charged with the duty of designating such streets,
and their report will be either enclosed with this letter or forwarded under another cover.
Re: Purchase of Grader.
By reference to the enclosed copy of 1935 budget and analysis of same, you will not
n that the city anticipated that the grader could be purchased from moneys to be received fro
the State Gasmline Tax Funds which would accrue to the city if and when the proposed law pc n-
soredd by the Association of Washington Cities became effective. With the taking effect of
•r the new tax levy limit law (Initiative No. 94), it became impossible for the city to raise
r all the funds needed by the city from taxation alone without seriously crippling all other
city departments and it was anticipated that the funds hoped to be derived from State sources
to be used only for street purposes, would help us to solve the very difficult problem of
balancing the budget for 1935. It appears, therefore, that for the year 1935, no funds are
n , available other than those accruing under Chapter 111, Laws of 1935.
It is impossible for the writer to forecast what amount the City Council will desire
to budget for the year 1936 but it is presumed that it will be approximately the same as fori
1935.
Re: Cost of maintenance for biennium.
i The writer estimates that it will be twice the amount of the current year's budget,
j
$13 .00. 360` Through s Drain of circumstances, the expenditures of and for the street department
has exceeded the revenues anticipated by approximately $4200.00 within the past four years
I am setting forth the reasons and effect of su
and in a separate latter herewith enclosed, c
a deficiency, to give you a clearer view of our present financial situation.
Very truly yours, C. F. Christian, City Clerk
