THE CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, met in regular session this 16th day of April, 1935, at 7:30 o'clock P.M., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Mayor George Bangerter presiding. ROLL CALL. Upon Roll Call there were present Mayor George Bangerter, City Attorney W. J. Daly, City Clerk C. F. Christian, and Councilmen H. L. Hirtzler, Sam McGee, Peter Nabghton, and Wm. Lammers Sr.; Councilman Tony DeLeo arriving immediately after roll call. MINUTES APPROVED AS RECORDED. It was moved by Councilman Hirtzler and seconded by Councilman McGee that the minutes of the regular session of April 2nd be approved as recordel . Motion declared carried. "NATIONAL PARK" BILL OPPOSED. By permission, T. Harry Baker Jr., addressed the Counci asking that the Council go on record as opposed to House Bill No. 7086, introduced in the House of Representatives at Washington, which would annex considerable territory to the pres ant Olympic National Monument with the object of making the enlarged area, a national park. Such Motion Adopted. It was moved by Councilman Hirtzler and seconded by Councilman Naughton that the Council:go on record as opposing the said H.H. #7086 and the the City At- torney and the City Clerk be instructed to draft a letter to that effect and that a copy of same be sent to each our representatives in Congress at Washington. Motion declared Carrie . It also appeared from report, that the U.S. Forestry Service would help the City of Port Townsend to protect the water shed of the City's Big Quilcene River water system. REPORTS OF OFFICERS. "Card Room" Ordinance Vetoed. Mayor Bangerter submitted the following letter, die -ap- proving the Card Room License Ordinance, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington, April 10, 1935. To the City Counall, Port Townsend, Washington. Gentlemen: - In the best interests of the city, I have vetoed the ordinance regulating and licensing card tables. The clause regulating the hours serves no useful purpose, and the license of five dol- lars each should be changed so as to be on a sliding scale basis. Respectfully, George Bangerter, Mayor. Re: New Highway Act._ City Attorney Daly submitted a report relative to the new High- way Act, which was read to the Council as follows: Port Townsend, Washington, April 16, 1935. Hon. Mayor and City Council City of Port Townsend, Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen:- Concerning the matter of the purchase of a grader by the City, of Port Townsend, from moneys to be paid the city under recent legislation of the State of Washington, I have been informed through executives of the State Highway Department that certain legal question fecting the act are now in the hands of the Attorney'General of the State of Washington, and that the State Highway Department will shortly circularize qll cities and towns concern ing the administration of this money. To the foregoing Communication, Mr. Daly penciled -;in the following information, "LaVers vs City set for trial Monday, April 22nd before Judge Card of Tacoma." Communication was ordered filed for reference. "Fire Engine Warrant" Issued. City Clerk Christian reported to the Council that he had issued Current Expense Fund Warrant #1177 in favor of Mack -International Motor Truck Corporation, in the amount of $1,950.00, constituting the final payment on the Mack Fire Engine. City Treasurer's Xarch Report. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of Marc] 1935, was presented, read, and referred to the Finance Committee. Water Supt'e March heport. The report of the Water Supt. for the month ending March 31st, was presented, read, and referred to the Water Committee. Main Line Meter headings. The reports of Water Supt, Green, showing the flow of wa- ter through the main line meters for the period ending April 9th, were presented, read, and ordered filed. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, of the City of Port Townsend. Gentlemen: Your Committee, nn Water and Drainage, to whom was referred the matter of petit R. W. Robison and A. R. Getchman for extension of water main to property in the California Addition, would respectfully report as follows: We find that it would require the install tion of at least 2000 feet of new, 4-inch pipe to reach the property of the petitioners. There does not appear to be any prospect of additional consumers in that district in the near future.; Therefore, the small amount of new business in sight, at the present time, would not justify the expense of such construction. Applications for Building Permits were presented, read, and disposed of, as follows: From Miss Grace Lindsay, to -wit: Port Townsend, Wadh., April 16t1i, 1935. To the Honorable 1°ayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: Permission is requested to erect a small, frame wood shed on the premises at 724 Tyler Street, at an estimated cost of $8b.00 Respectfully submitted, Mica Grace Lindsay, B$r 0. L. Allen. From Bayview General Hospital, to-v(lt: Port Townsend, Wash., April 16, 1935. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: Permission is requested to build an addition to the Bayview Hospital building, consisting principally of, an extension of the 2nd story over and above the kitchen and dr way on the northerly side of the said building. Permission is hereby respectfully requested to move a small house onto the proper at the Northeast corner of San Juan Avenue and F Street: Port TiwnsendI and fit the same up for living purposes, with modern septic tank fittings, and city water connection, at a cost of approximately $300.00.
