The CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, met in regular session this 1st day of January, 1935, at 7:30 o'clock p.m., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, gayor Yueorge Bangerter presiding. ROLL CALL: Upon Roll Call, there were present Mayor George Bangerter, City Attorney 'N. J. Daly, City Clerk C. F. Christian, and Councilmen W. S. Lafferty, Wm. Lammers Sr., Paul H. Sather, and W. B. Smith; Councilmen Welch and McGee arriving later in the session. G:INUTES OF PRECEDING SESSION. It was moved by Councilman Satter and seconded by Coun- cilman Smith that the minutes of the regular session of Dec. 18th, 1934, be approved as written. Motion declared carried. BILLS AND CLAIMS. Approved Bills. Dills and 0laims as audited by the Finance Committee and recommended for payment, were presented, and read, asrfollows: Upon the Current Expense Fund, to -wit: 0. R. Albright Chafnman, Reserve pipe line survey 4.00 Total ................ 146.51' dd It was moved by Councilman Lammers and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the said claims be allowed and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to issue warrants up- on the proper funds in payment of same. Upon Roll Call vote, all four Councilmen present voted in favor thereof and motion was declared carried. Councilman George Welch arrived at this time and took'his seat in the Council. STANDING COMMITTEES. Matters referred to Standing Committees of the outgoing Council were now taken up and disposed of as follows: Street Lease to Tony P. Eronimo. Councilman Lafferty, Chairman of the Street Commit- tee, to whom had been referred the application of Tony P. Eronimo to lease one blook of Jackman Street, lying between Hastings Avenue and 29th Street, reported favorably on the application. Councilman Lafferty then moved, and it was seconded by Councilman Sather, that the application be granted, the lease to run one year at a rental of $2.00 per year. Upon a call for the question, motion was declared carried. Building Permit to August J. Baunach. The application of Albert J. Baunach, to erect a service station on LOt 8 of Block 29 of Hastings 2nd Addition and to fill in and improve the said lot, which application had been referred to the Building Committee, was now taken up for consideration, and after a short discussion relative to the location of the property it ,,,,as moved by Councilman Sather and seconded by Councilman Lafferty j;hat the said permit be granted. 'lotion declared carried. INTRODUCTION OF MAYOR MID COUNCIL1,71I. New Seating; Arrangement. Before seating the now Councilmen, b:ayor Bangerter inforcall addressed the Council, suggesting that, inasmuch as there was now no Councilman -at -Large, a new seating arrangement be adopted, to -wit: 'Chat the Councilman from the First Ward be seat fed in the chair at the extreme right from the Yayorfs desk and that the Councilmen from the other wards be seated in numerical order as to wards, to the left of the First Ward Council man. It ;.as moved by Councilman Sather and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the new seating arrnngement as recommended by the Mayor be adopted. lotion declared carried. Councilmen -elect installed. By direction of the Mayor, Councilmen -elect H. L. Hirtz- ler, Peter Naughton, Tony DcLeo, 'b. S. Lafferty and Paul H. Sather were, each in turn, es- corted to their resooctive chairs and duly introduced as Councilmen for their respective Words . It was moved by Councilman Lammers and seconded by Cour Gilman McGee, That the retiring Councilmen be given a vote of thanks in appreciation of the services as members of the Council. Appointment of new Committees: Mayor Bangerter now announced the appointment of the Statutory Standing Committees of the City Council for the current term, as follows: Finance and Claims: 11". S. Lafferty, Chairman, Wm. Lammers, H. L. Hirtzler Water and Drainage: Wm. Lammers Sr., Chairman, Peter Naughton, 117. S. Lafferty. Streets and Sewers: Paul H. Sather, Chairman, W. S. Lafferty, 'Pony DeLeo. Police and License: Peter Naughton, Chairman, Tony DeLeo, Paul 11. Sather. Fire and Light: Tony DeLeo, Chairman, H. L. Hirtzler, Sam McGee. Harbor and Health: Sam McGee, Chairman, Paul H. Sather, Peter Naughton. Buildings and Miscl: H. L. Hirtzler, Chairman, Wm. Lammers Sr., Sam McGee. Appointment of Park Board. Mayor Bangerter also announced the appointment of the members of the Park Board, to-wi Joe Kirkpatrick, Chairmen, Mrs. Emma With, Secretary, and J. H. Hearing. George '^illeatoft appointed Chief of Police. For the Office of Chief of Police, Mayor Bangerter named George Willestoft as his ap- pointee for the said office. No other appointments. made at this The Mayor then stated that no further appointments would be session. Election of Mayor Pro Tem. Councilman Lammers brought up the matter of electing a Mayor pro tem and Mayor Bangerter called for nominations. Wm. Lammers Sr., nominated and elected. Councilman Lafferty then placed in nomination the name of Councilman Lammers for the said position and there being no other nominations, it was moved by Councilman Lafferty and seconded by Councilman Sather that Councilman Wm. Lammers Sr., be declared elected as Y'ayor pro tem. Motion carried unanimously and hb was declared elected. ADJOURNMENT.
