Holden - Columbia River Development League.
Mayor Bangerter also presented a letter from
the Executive Secretary of the Columbia River Development League, which was read by the
City Clerk as follows, to -wit: Seattle, Plash., November 12th, 1934.
Mayor,
Port Townsend, Washington
Dear Sir:- We are informed that Superintendent J. D. Ross of Seattle City Light,, or some
member of the Seattle City Council has visited your city, or in the near future plane to
do so, for the purpose"of securing your support to their plan for taking over the Puget
Sound Power & Light Company system.
Because the municipal power politicians of Seattle are starting this campaign
for the purpose of' discrediting the Grand Coulee project and to build up a political cliqu
to dominate not only the politics of all cosununitiea now served by the Puget Sound Power
& Light Company but the politics of the State as well, we are anxious to have you hear
the other side of the question.
The Columbia River Development League, at your invitation, will be glad to send
a representative to speak at a meeting in your City, and to present the facts about the
development at Grand Coulee. As you know, the Grand Coulee project will not only produce
electric power cheaper, than the Skagit, but it will also result in the reclamation of
the0p pulationsoffouriStatedIn , thushprovidingathesmarketscforlourately will indumean the 8oublin
industries.
Sincerely yours, Ashley E. Holden
ecutive Secretary.
The Ross report and the accompanying letters were referred to the Fire and Light
Committee.
