Applicati one for Building Permits from sundry persona, were presented, read, and die - posed of as follows: From Chas. E. Fowler, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington, August 27, 1934. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: - Permission is requested to erect a log poultry house about 8 x 12 feet in size, on Block 3, Laurel Shade Addition, at a cost not exceeding $10.00 for materials. Respectfully submitted, Charles E. Fowler. From L. P. Stenstrom, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington, August 27, 1934. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: - Permission is requested to dismantle two outbuildings on the property at 1118 Blaine Street and rebuild a combined woodshed and garage on the same property. The cost is estimated at $30.00 Respectfully submitted, L. P. Stenstrom. From Mrs. Rose M. Fraser Lee, to -wit: Port Townsend, Washington, August 27, 1934. To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Wash. gentlemen: - Permission is requested to remodel the::stairway in my residence at 829 Madison Street, at an estimated cost of $10.00 for materials. Respectfully submitted, Mrs. Rose M. Fraser Lee. Granted: It was moved by Councilman Welch and seconded by Councilman McGee that said per,its be granted. Motion declared carried. COMMUNICATIONS. Continuance of Weppner Hearing. The only communication was in the *ay:n of a copy of a form letter from the Dept, of Labor and Industires to Mr. R. J. McLean, one of its admin- istrative officers, that a further hearing would be had on the Weppner claim, in Seattle on Sept. 13th at 11:00 A.M., this being a continuation of a prior hearing. Ordered filed. REQUISITIONS. Requisitions submitted by various city Departments, were presented, read, and disposed) of as follows: For the City Attorney's Dept., to -wit: 500 sheets typewriter paper, 8J x 13. For City Clerk's Dept., to -wit: Cleaning and overhauling typewriter not to exceed a cost of $12.00 For City Water Dept.; to -wit: 500 envelopes and letterheads; One pad of paper used for meter reading bills. One box of pencils. It was moved by Councilman Smith and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the said requisitions be granted. Upon a roll call vote, all five Councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. Auto Siren From Weppner. It appearing to the Council that an Auto siren horn belong- ing to the city was dtill�4n the possession of Mr. R. S. Weppner, it was moved by Council- man Welch and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the Chief of Police be instructed, through the Mayor, to obtain the said horn from Mr. Weppner. Motion declared carried. 'rite City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, met in regular session thi: 18th day of September, 1934, at 8 o'clock P.M., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Councilman Wm. Lammers, Mayor protem presiding in the absence of Mayor Bangerter. ROLL CALL: Upon Roll Call there were present City Attorney W. J. Daly, City Clerk C. F. Christian, and Councilmen W. B. Smith, Wm. Lammers,Sr „ Paul H. Sather, Goo. Welch and Sam McGee. MINUTES APPROVED: It was moved by Councilman Welch and seconded by Councilman Smith that the minutes of Sept 4, 1934, be approved as written. Motion declared carried. REPORTS OF OFFICERS. Daly on Water Line. City Attorney Daly, reporting on the interview with Mr. Erickson of the National Paper Products Company relative to repair work to be done on the main wate. supply line at Snow 'Creek, stated that Mr. Erickson took the stand that it was not regular maintenance work, but to be considered, because of the washout by flood, an Act of God and that the expense, therefore, was a liability of the city. He further stated that the Com pony would be glad to cooperate with the city in the way of donating the required engineer ing work and that Mr. Simpson had estimated the cost of the proposed work at $200.00. Also that while W.E.R.A. could not supply labor at present, it was believed that labor for the project would be available later. Mr. Daly submitted a copy of a letter addressed to the City Planning Board, which was read, as follows: Port Townsend, Wash., September 18, 1934. City Planning Board, City of Port Townsend. Gentlemen: - I desire to submit herewith a public matter which I feel might properly come within your jurisdiction. In the early part of last week Councilman Lammers and myself met with Mr. Erick- son of the National Paper Products Company and discussed with him the necessity of immedi- ately completing the work of repairing damage to the main water supply line of the City of Port Townsend, from the washouts caused by heavy rains of last winter. One point in par- ticular that needs attention is where the main supply line crosses Snow Creek. Mr. Erickson states that Mr. Simpson has made an estimate of the cost of this re pair at the sum of approximately $200.00. The Paper Company assures us that they will fu nish the necessary engineering providing the city furnishes the labor. From the information that Councilman Lammers and myself have gleaned, the work o this snow creek labor should be done during September and October, the periods of low wate I am authorized to inform you that any action that you may take in this matter. could be handled in cooperation with the Water Committee of the City of Port Townsend, and that the Council will stand back of the Water Committee at all times. The City Clerk reported on the following matters, to -wit: `:�.1::Warranta Issued: That he had issued warrants upon the Water Fund to the State .`reas- urer in the amount of $10.01 for industrial Insurance premuim for August, and to the State Tax Commission in the amount of $121.08 for business tax for August, and upon the Current Expense Fund to the State Treasurer in the amount of $9.89 for industrial insurance premiu for the month of August. Mitton Appointed Relief Patrolman. That Mr. 0. R. Mitton had been appointed and swor in by the Mayor as relief patrolman, the Oabh of Office being filed with the City Clerk. City Budget Notice. That a notice had been inserted in the Port Townsend Leader rela tive to budget hearings, as required by Law. Water Proposal for P.O. Building accepted. That the Federal Government had accepted the proposal of the city to supply i<he P.O. Building with water. Letters to Mayor: That he, the Clerk, had written the Mayor relative to unpaid licen ses and in relation to the siren auto horn belonging to the city, as directed by the Coun- cil. Water Line Plane: That the plane and specifications for the proposed salvaging and relaying the Snow Creek iron pipe had been presented to the W.E.R.A., and Berg Claim: That Mr. Jay N. Berg and his Attorney, Mr. A. Henry Packard, had been duly advised by letter that the claim of Mr. Berg for damages had been rejected in whole by the Council. TREASURER'S REPORT: The report of the City Treasurer for the month of August, 1934, was presented, read, and referred to the Finance Committee. WATER SUPT'S REPORT: The City Water Supt.'s report for the month of August, 1 was presented, read, and referred to the Water Committee. d ,a
