To His Honor the Mayor, and the members of the City Council of Port Townsend. Sirs: - The State Engineer, Mr. Coulter, was in torn on Saturday, May 12th, inspecting t Highway. He was very much pleased to notice that the city was starting to care for the part of the highway. He remarked that we were doing excellent work on it and wanted it c tinned to the end of the city limits. The cost for caringfor the highway, he said, woul be more this year, due to the fact that there had been no work done on it before. Mr. Coulter suggested that the concrete posts and iron clamps on the cables shoo be painted. He remarked that the main streets leading into the highway should have a hard surface, at the laterals, to prevent the loose gravel from covering the highway. He also stated that the fall would be the beat time to tar the expansion joints as if done during summer, the heat would expand the pavement closing them up and making it impossible to see all the open seams.
