HomeMy WebLinkAbout00231 MINUTES OF JULY llth APPROVED.n 450 Councilman Lammers reported to the Council that he had observed that a hole had been out in the side of the Haller Building at the corner of Taylor and !Washington Streets and that a stove pipe flue extended through the side wall, contrary to the provisions of the ordinances of the city. Upon motion of Councilman Tonnsond, and seconded by Councilman Smith, the matter was referred to the Fire Chief for abatement. Councilman McGee then addressed the Council relative to the enforcement and nonen- forcement of certain ordinances, stating among other things that he had seen the Chief of Police relative to enforcement of the parking ordinances, the Ohief stating that the mat- ter had been left in his hands and wher. Cbuncilman McGee asked him what he proposed to do about it, he said that the Chief replied that he did not intend to do anything about it. ADJOURNMENT. The CITY COUNCIL of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, met in regular session this 18th day of July, 1933, at 8 o'clock p.m., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Coun- cilman irm..Larrmers, Sr., Mayor protem. presiding; Mayor Bangerter being absent. ROLL CALL. Upon Roll Call, there were present Dep. City Attorney Wl. J. Daly, City Clerk C. F. Christian, and Councilmen C. P. Aubert, Geo. F. Townsend, Sam McGee, Nilliam .t Lawmers,Sr., and Jacob Miller. MINUTES OF JULY llth APPROVED. The minutes of the regular session of July llth were read, and after minor correction, were approved. REPORTS OF OFFICERS: t , i City Treasurer. The report of the City Treasurer for the month of June, 1933, was presented, read, and �{ referred to the Finance Committee. 3'ater Supt. Main Line; -Meter Report. The report of the City Water Supt, of the flow of water through the main line meters for the period ending July 13th, was presented, read, and ordered filed. Street Supt. 'Work Report. The work report of the City Street Supt. for the period from July let to 17th, inclu- sive, was presented, read, and ordered filed. t REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES. STATE.GRANT FUNDS. Councilmen Aubert, member of the Finance Committee, reporting verbally in relation to the matter of matching a grant from the State for water main con- sbruction, stated that not much progress had been made, and further, that Mayor Bangerter had informed him that he had learned of a method being used by another city and requested that action in the matter be deferred until the next session of the Council, the Mayor be- lieving that the plan mentioned could be made to apply for Port Townsend. TRUCK INSURANCE. Reporting also on renewal of insurance on city trucks, Council man Aubert stated that the Finance Committee were of the opinion that nothing could be gain ad by asking for bids for such insurance and recommended that renewals oR such insurance be awarded to the same agenci8e�and terms as in effect for the past year. Reports Adopted. It vise moved by Councilman Aubert and seconded by Councilman Mil- ler that the said reports by adopted. Upon Roll Call, all five Councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. Re: Application for State Brant: ' Relative to s State Grant in Aid for water main construction, Councilman Lammers reported that ;-'r. Starrett had stated that our applicatior if any, should be presented without delay and in the discussion which followed, it was sta- ted that the County 'Welfare Board would Ineet on Friday night of this weak, but it appeared •` to be the concesus of opinion that it would be practically impossible for the city to pre- pare anything for presentation within that period of time. Re: Plumbing Licenses: Councilman Aubert brought up the matter of part payment of licenses and requested an opinion from Dep. City Attorney Daly, relative to Plumbing li- censes, that if an applicant tendered half of the annual fee, he could be licensed for a half year and follow his trade or profession. In his reply, Mr. Daly stated that he couli not do so if the city insisted upon strict compliance with the ordinance, but as a matter of expediency, he believed the city would be justified in accepting half of the full term license fee. In the discussion which followed, it visa suggested by some of the Council that it might set a bad precedent, to accept less than the fee for the full license term. Re: State Highway Maintenance: W G Councilman Townsend, of the Street Committee, brow i,• ° . up the matter of maintenance of the State Highway, stating that,i'Sn hiA belief, the grass � nk and weeds should be cut on each side of the pavement and kept in such condition as not to invite criticism of the Highway Department and also the public. lie further stated thot he would take up the matter with the L,ayor and Street Superintendent.
