Minutes of the City Council of March 7th, 1933, continued
Stews on Harrison Street:
Councilman McGee also brought up the condition of the steps, or stairway, at the foot
of Harrison Street.
City Hall Lights:
Councilman Townsend, commenting on the bill for light for the City Hall, reported that
all the current used was now on the lighting circuit and that he lied been advised that, if
part of the demand was put on power or wires,it was believes the cost of electric current
could be reduced to approximately g9.30 per month.

Fire and Light Committee on Gasoline Tank:
Written report of the Fire and Light Committee was presented and read, as follows:
To the Honorable Mayor and City Council Port Townsend, 'Nash., March 7th, 1933
of the City of Port Townsend.
Gentlemen:
Your Committee, on Fire and Light, to whom urea referred the matter of purchase of
a gasoline tank and pump for use of city departments, would respectfully report as follows:)
After considering four price quotations received, vie found t1re quotation of the Seattle
Boiler Works of 415.00 for- a 286 gallon, 12 gauge tank to be the lowest and best quotation,
and the City Clerk was authorized and directed to place an order for same.
We further report that the tank is now on Union Dock, awaiting acceptance by the
City.
'lo have also bargained for a first class visible gasoline pump at a price of

It was moved by Councilman Aubert and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that the said
report be adopted. Upon roll call all seven Councilman voted in the affirmative and motion
was declared carried.
RECESS
It was moved by Councilman Lammers and seconded by Councilman Smith that the Council
recess for 15 minutes. Motion declared carried.

BUILDING PERMITS
Applications for building permits were presented, read and disposed of, as follows:

Gentlemen:
Permission is requested to erect a tier of bleacher seats in the Southernly end

of the brick building at 725 ')later Street, similar in all respects as to type df construe-
'tion,
size of timbers, etc., to the tier of seats recently erected in the Northernly end
of the building, except that a large opening for an exit, will be provided in the center
of the tier of seats instead of one at each side. The walls partitioning off a small room
in the rear will be removed to make room for the above construction. All labor, lumber and
other materials are being donated by or through the Welfare Society of the National Paper
Products Co.'s employees.

A pencil sketch of plan of construction is herewith attached.

I am the owner of the property described as - the South half of Lots 1 and 3,

Block 81, original Townsite, and the sewer from the duelling house on the North half of the
said lots is connected to and drains into the sewer from the property owned by me which con

stitutes a nuisance and detriment to my property because when sewage is flushed into the
drain from the other dwelling,, it interferes with proper drainage from my property. I was

advised by the former City Engineer, Mr. Sadler, that a separate lateral sewer seas required
for each house and I am respectfully requesting that the City Council come to my relief in

this matter.

Upon the advise of the City Attorney that the City Tied no jurisdiction in the mat

ter, it was moved by Councilman Lafferty and seconded by Councilman Miller that the City
Clerk notify Mr. Somers that the City has no jurisidiction in the matter. Motion declared
carried.

ouncil at the session of February 21st, 1933, was presented and read, as follows:

I have vetoed the ordinance which you passed at the regular meeting of the city
ouncil February 21, 1933, regulating the parking in the city 'of Port Townsend for the fol-
owing reasons:
1. Inability of the city to enforce name.
2. It will create a misunderstanding among out of town shopperstdoing business
ith merchants in the streets mentioned in Port Townsend.
