Mayor Bangerter next submitted the following communication relative to requested
voluntary reductions in the salaries of the elective officers of the city, to -wit:

The said mentioned resolution was then presented and read, as follows:
A R E S 0 L U T ION.
Requesting City Elective Officers to Assume Certain Salary Reductions.
Whereas, It is imperative to balance city current expense budgets by increased taxes
and decreased expenditures; and
Whereas, the City Council and Mayor have favored and ordered certain city appointive
office and salaries and wages reduced to meet the emergency,
Be It Resolved, That the City Council and Mayor do hereby urge the most earnest consid
oration of all city elective officers and request them to voluntarily agree to take a flat
ten per cent reduction in salaries effective from the 1st of July, 1932, for the balance of
the current year:
And Be it Further Resolved, That the City Council Finance Committee do consult with
each elective officer and ascertain his or her attitude in this matter.
Resolution ado ted. It was moved by Councilman Starrett and seconded by Councilman
Lammers that a reao utlon be adopted. Upon Roll Call, all five Councilmen present voted

AMERICAN LEGION PETITION GRANTED.
Taking up the petition of the American Legion for use of certain streets for carnival
and celebration purposes, it was moved by Councilman Starrett and seconded by Councilman

Washington and Front Streets, for carnival and concession purposes; the City reserving the
right to collect licenses for concessions; the Legion to deposit a cash bond of $10.00 to
insure cleaning up of the streets after the celebration and to assist the City Authorities
in every way in policing the streets; the Council to further approve their application by
approving the plans of the Mayor for a Wock City Government by the Legion Committee on the
day of the celebration. Motion declared carried.
INSURANCE FOR STREET AND WATER DEPT. TRUCKS.
In the matter of renewal of insurance on the city trucks, it was moved by Councilman
Lammers and seconded by Councilman Smith that the City Clerk be instructed to ask for pro-
posals for insurance on the said trucks for one year. Motion declared carried.
TRANSFER FUNDS FOR BOND REDEMPTION.
In the matter of taking up water bonds before the due date, and the report of the Cit3
Treasurer showing that $10,000 was now available for such bond redemption, it was moved by
Coum ilman Smith and seconded by Councilman Peach that the City Treasurer shall transfer a:
adtitional '000.00 this month from the Olympic Gravity Water Fund to the Water Bond and
Interest Fund, 1927, and to authorize the said City Treasurer to take up and redeem all of
the twelve water bonds due Jan. lat, 1933, if the owners of the said bonds will surrender
them before the due date. Upon Roll Call, all five Councilmen present voted in the af-
firmative and motion was declared carried.
OCCUPATION LICENSE'ORDINANCE.
itAn Ordinance to License Occupations, etc., and entitled " An Ordinance of the City of
Port Townsend, licensing and taxing certain occupations, trades, businesses, professions,
liauto trucks and amusements, within said city, to raise money to conduct the general busine
of said City; providing a penalty for the violation thereof; and repealing all parts of Or
Idinances in conflict herewith," was introduced and read in full fo: the first reading and
was then laid over to the next session of the Council.

Claims allowed. It was moved by Councilman Smith and seconded by Councilman Laffert

present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried.
REPORTS OF OFFICERS.
CITY ATTORNEY:
CONNIFF BRINGS SUIT.
City Attorney Scott advised the Council that Wm. J. Conniff had brought suit against
the City in the amount of $5846.00 for daVa so and had made the Port Townsend Southern Rail
road a party to the suit. The Cit �Val'e`d�that he intended to have a conference with the
officers of the Port Townsend Southern Railroad oompany and would report further to the Cit
Council.
JESSE LAVERA APPOINTED RELIEF PATROLMAN.
The City Clerk reported that the Oath of Office of Jesse Louie LaVera, as relief pa-
trolman, had been filed *ith'.the'CSth?:Clerk.
SALARY WARRANTS ISSUED.
City Clerk Christian reported that he had issued the regular salary warrants for the
month of June, 1932, under date of July let, 1932, as follows:
