LAWSUIT INVOLVING PIPE LINE RIGHT OF.WAY.
City Attorney Scott informed3the Council that the suit brought by Emil Schunann
against the National City Development Co,, for foreclosure of mortgage, involved the City
because of the Cityla pipe line right of way through the property in question. He further
stated that he had appeared in court and paid the required fees and had taken up the matter
with Mr. Holman of making a stipulation to eliminate this tract from the suit on the graund
of open possession by the oity of this right of way.

as follows:

this city, which, I believe, is self-explanatory. If the sentiments expressed therein
neat with your approval, your cooperation along similar lines, in an effort to influence

Bellingham Resolution.
The hesolution referred to in the foregoing communication, is as
follows:
RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, the manufacture of lumber and wood products constitutes the back -bone of the
industry of the Stata of Washington, and
WHEREAS, the importation and use of foreign wood products has injured this basic indue
try, to so great an extent that less than thirty percent. of such industries are, now operat
entailing great hardship and suffering and resulting in the unemployment of more than one
hundred thousand men in such industry, and greatly intensifying the stagnation of all bust
ness and resulting in a condition that demands immediate relief,
NOW THEREFCRE, be it resolved by the City Council of the City of Bellingham, Washingtc
that we do got?petition, but after mature deliberation, demand of the Congress of the.Unil
States, immediate and adequate protection for such lumber and timber industry by appropric
legislation at the present session of Congress, and
That a copy of this Resolution be transmitted to our Senators and Representatives in
Congress and to the legislative bodies of the principal cities of this State, with the sui
gestion that they adopt similar resolutions and forward the same to our representatives is
Congress.
Passed by the City Council of the City of Bellingham, this llth day of April, 1932.

The United States Fidelity and Guaranty Company, surety for James H. Coyne, con
tractor for the improvement of the Olympic Gravity Water Works of the City of Port Townes
hereby gives its consent to the order of the City Council of the City of Port Townsend do
April 5, 1932 with reference to the acceptance of the said contract and the retention of
the sum of $1,308.21 by the City of Port Townsend to cover any contingencies or matters
arising or appertaining to the sufficiency of the completion of the work involving said
contract.

seaeion of March 1st, 1932, laid over to and given the 3rd reading on March 15th and then,
by vote of the Council, laid over for further consideration, was now taken up and it was
moved by Councilman Starrett and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that Section 5 of the pro
posed Ordinance be amemded by striking out the figures $1.00 in line two of said section 5
and inserting the figures $50.00 in lieu thereof. Upon Roll Call, all six Councilmen pre
ent voted in favor thereof and motion was declared carried.
