The contents of the resolution are self explanatory and we feel that you as fre, quent and important users of this route will be interested in communicating with the Stat< Highway bepurtment officials through Samuel flumes, Director, adding your earnest suggestic for the earliest, safest and most convenient completion of the paving to be done. Ainkaid, Secretary. Councilman Starrett then addressed the Council, stating why the early completion of the said paving should be urged upon the State Highway officials. It was then moved by Councilman Starrett and seconded by Councilman Aldrich that the Council cgo on record as favoring the said resolution and to so advise the State Highway Department officials. Motion declared carried. Councilman W. B . Smith arrived at this time and thereafter took part in the proceed- ings o e ounc Copy of Resolution: The following is a copy of the foregoing mentioned {tesolution: A RESOLUTION URGING PROMPT ASSURANCES AND PROPER ACTION TO INSURE THE COMPLE'i'ICN OF THE PLANNED DISCOVERY BAY STATE HIGHWAY PAVING AT THE EARLIEST DA'TETPOSSIBLE AND WITH THE LEAST TRAFFIC INCONVENIENCE. Whereas, the State of Washington Highway Commission plans certain cement paving exte sions on State ]road No. 9, the Olympic Highway, South of Port Townsend to the head of Dis covery Bay, to be completed in June; and Whereas, it is vitally important that this work be completed as early as possible be cause seventy per cent of the motor traffic to and from the Olympic Peninsula uses this route via Port Townsend and an additional twenty per cent use it from tributive routes; a Whereas, June lst to 15th, the opening of the normal tourist season, will this year bring additional thousands of cars to the Olympic vacation land because of the great natl al convention and game attractions along the entire Pacific Cdast; and therefore Be it Resolved, that the State Highway Depnrtment officials be urged to use every me to keep this route safely open during the construction period, and to assure that such im provements will be completed for partial use at least, not laterthnn June 15th andby June 1st if possible, and Be it Further Resolved, that the City and County officials be requested to givetthe State Highway Department every assistance in assuring this action, and that the business and transportation organizations primarily interested be urged to demonstrate their need for the opening of this project at the earliest possible day. Dedication of George Washington Memorial Bridge. A communication from the committee in charge, through John E. Carroll, President extending an invitation to the City Council and the citizens of this community, to attend the dedication ceremonies for the George Washington Memorial Bridge, to be hold February 22nd, 1932, was presented and read, but owing to the lengthN of the letter and lack of ne- cessity for recording same, the communication is not herewith set out in full. Annual {teport of the Public Library Board for the year ending December 31, 1931, was presented and is jerewith set out in full, to -writ: PORT TOWNSEND PUBLIC LIBRARY, PORT TOWNSEND, WASHINGTON. Report for 1931. To the Chairman and Members of the Library Board: I•hereby submit a summary of the work of the Library for 1931. Again we have reached a high mark in circulation as will be shown by the following figures, 22,835 which was the number of books and periodicals loaned for home and school use. 18,796 for adults and 4,039 for juveniles. Of these 14,071 were adult fiction and 3,172 wore juvenile fiction. During 1931, 177 were added to the list of borrowers - 127 adult and 50 juvenile. The matter of cataloging the library has been considered many times but because of other expenses was impossible. Miss R. P. McCrady was engaged for this purpose and com- pleted the work in two months and one weeks time. Books found to be of no use on the shelves and others stored in the basement were elin inated by the cataloguer. These the board members voted should be given to the Orthopedic thrift shop of this city. The number of books catalogued is 5606 - 4369 adult and 1237 juvenile. 247 of these were added during 1931 by purchase, binding and donation: A card catalogue cabinet was secured which is now in use and an added and necessary improvement to the Library.
