The City Council of the City of Port Townsend, Washington, met in re ular sass on s 19th day of January, 1932, at 7:30 P.M., in the Council Chambers of the City Hall, Mayor George Bangerter presiding. ROLL CALL. Upon roll call there were present N.ayor George Bangerter, City Attorney Jan. W. B. Scot City Clerk C. F. Christian, and Councilmen S. V. Peach, Win. Lammers Sr., Jaoob Miller end E. M. Starrett. MINUTES APPROVED. The minutes of the regular session of January 5th, 1932, were read and approved as read. REPORTS OF DFFICERS• Mayor appoints Mrs. McCurdy: Mayor Bangerter announced the appointment of 1Gra. Jennie L?eCuxny to saccee herself as a member of the Library Board, the communication from the Board, signed by the Secretary :;:rs. Ma been referred to the Mayor, y B. Marriott, recommending the reappointment, having Treasurer's Report for December. The Treasurer's Report for the month of December, 1931 was pre a a nt e , rea , an re errs to the Finance Committee. It was then moved by Councilman Peach and seconded by Coun able,cilman Lammers that the City Clerk be instructed to write the petitioners to the effect tun the petition could not be granted because of lack of funds. Motion declared carried. Old Catholic Church Buildin Councilman Lammers brought up the matter of the conditio of t e o Cato c c urcbuilding which is being wrecked, stating that it appeared to be unsafe in its present condition. Councilman Lammers then moved, seconded by Councilman Starrett that City Engineer Sadler and Chief of Police Compton be instructed to make an in- spection of the premises as to safety and safeguards. Motion declared carried. BUILDING PERMITS. Applications for Building Permits were presented, read, and disposed of as follows: From J. J. Bishop, to -wit: To the Honorable lanyor and City Council, Port Townsend, Wash., Jant•13,1931 Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: - Permission is requested to reshingle the woodshed on my premises in the Mountain View Addition. Cost id estimated at $20.00 Reppectfully submitted, J. J. Bishop, H. Stockand, to -wit: To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Tonnsend, Wash., January 13, 1932 Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: - Permission is requested to tear down and remove the store building at the corner of Harrison and Clay Streets. Material will all be removed and a deposit of $10.00 has been made with the City Treasurer to insure removal of all debris. Respectfully submitted, J. W. Stockand. Dear Mr. Christian:- 11 quid chlorine Replying to your letter of January 16th, should the market price for q , packed in 100 or 150 pound cylinders, in such quantities as the City of Port Townsend buys, decline during the time your contract is in force, we shall be glad to you the benefit od such reduction, as has always been our practice in the past. We also guaranteetthat the maximum price will be that which is mentioned in the contract submitted. You may use this letter as a rider to your contract, covering the points which you have brought up and which the Council desires to have settled before executing the contract. Gentlemen: 41e hereby ask permission to take a few loads of gravel from the city gravel pit to be used on the streets surrounding our residence. Pie could use our own labor and trucl+ in doing so. Motion declared carried. Pa er Mill Hearin Relative to the proposed iational Paper Products Company hearing, the y C arc au m tted the following correspondence in relation thereto: From City Clerk to Paper Company, to -wit: Port Townsend, Wash., January 6, 1932. National Paper Products Company, Port Townsend, Wash. Attention Mr. E. W. Erickson Gentlemen: - Owing to injuries recently sustained by Mayor George Bangerter and the uncertain as to when he will be able to again take up the duties of his office, the City Council has directed me to write you thut t#ey desire to postpone the proposed hearing on your claim for payments made to the McCormick Lumber Company for extra logging expense they claim to have incurred, until such time as the Mayor will be able to preside, and also, if possible; until Mr. Lowenstein can be present, both having been present at previous conferences and have accurate knowledge of conversations had on the subject in the past. Christian Dear Sir:- 7e have your letter of January 6th;:relative to postponement of the proposed hear• ing on our claim for payments made to the McCormick Lumber Company for extra logging expen, While we wish to have this matter taken care of as soon as possible, we will wait until sui time as Mayor George Bangerter is able to preside. As regards waiting until Mr. Lowenstein's return, we have his instructions to take care of the matter from our side and since the time of his return is rather indefinite we would suggest that you allow us the hearing as soon as Mayor Bangerter is again able to pri side. For City Hall Dept, to -wit: 6 Cords Wood. It was moved by Councilman Lammers and seconded by Councilman Miller that the said re- quisitions be granted. Motion declared carried. Advertise for wood. It was moved by Councilman Lammers and seconded by Councilman Pea that the City er a authorized to advertise for bids for furnishing the city with the s cords of wood. Motion declared carried.
