Gontlemens Request is hereby made to be given the grade"for construction of sidewalk at my property at nor of Madison and Lincoln Streets. Respectfully submitted, L. W. To Lease Streets Petition from Carl Aronson for lease of street was presented and read, as follows: Port Townsend, Wash., January 7, 1931 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: Permission is requested to lease the Northerly half of 2nd Street abutting upon Lot 4, Block 289, Eizenbeis Addition, where my garage is situated. I am the owner of said Lot 4, and have had a lease upon the same property for the past year. Respectfully submitted, CARL ARONSON It was moved by Councilman Lafferty and seconded by Councilman Lammers that the said request be granted, and that the Mayor and the City Clerk be authorized to execute a lease as requested for a period of one year. From Carl Aronson to out timber: Petition from Carl Aronson was presented and read, as follows: Port Townsend, Wash., January 7, 1931 To the Honorable Mayor and City Council, Port Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: Permission is requested to out the timber on the Northerly half of 2nd Street along and abutting upon Lot 5, Block 290, Eisenbeis Addition, of which I am the maser. Brush and other debris will be cleaned up and burned. Motion declared carried. Communication from J. J. Bishop was presented and read, as follows: Port Townsend, Wash. Hon. Mayor and City Council, Part Townsend, Wash. Gentlemen: Your attention is respectfully directed to the almost impassable condition of Cane Street between Washington and Jefferson Streets. This street would be very much used if put in a fair condition as it leads from Washington: Street to the Courthouse. Thanking you, I am, Respectfully yours, J. J. Mr. Baer has removed from Jefferson county all his assets and there is nothing here in the•waycof property subjects to distraint. Numerous communications to Mr. Baer requesting payment have been all disregarded. Inasmuch as a portion of this amount due by Mr. Baer will return to the City treasury, I trust that you will cooperate with my office is effecting the collection. Respectfully, JOHN M. Dear Sires Owing to the fact that the ordinance under which you demanded end received Fifty ($50.00) Dollars for an electrician's license, is null and -.-void and without foundation therefore: I declare that the City of Port Townsend obtained said Fifty (50.00) Dollars under false pretenses, and as such, I ask that the said amount be returned to me in full. REQUISITIONS Requisitions for supplies were presented, read and disposed of, as follows: Stationery for Mayor's Office $12.00 It was moved by Councilman Lammers and seconded by Councilman Miller that the said request be grant- ed. Upon roll call all five Councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried. ORDINANCES AND RESOLUTIONS The following Resolution was submitted by Councilman Starrett and was read in full, to -wits A RESOLUTION Favoring An Increase In City Park Funds By A Millage Raise WHEREAS: The City of Port Townsend has maintained and improved its city park areas, Chetzemoka Park in tioular, for public entertainment and benefit for many years, AND WHEREAS: Said city park areas are of great scenic, health,aoeial and recreational value to the eiti- a of the city and a splendid center for tourists, visitors and guests. AND WHEREAS: State laws do not permit anc•exceso of one mill tax levy for the support of said park areas, ch is a insufficient amount for the ordinary maintenance and support of Chetzemoka park alone, not pro- ing funds for caretaker or watchman the yearcaround, AND WHEREAS: The Port Townsend Benevolent Protective Order of Elko and other friends of the public re- ational cause have volunteered support toncarry an in past yearn and should not be further depended upon, AND WHEREAS: The City Council of the City of Port Townsend feels that the citizens would favor an increaw the legal levy from one mill to one and a half mills to meet the needed operation amount, AND WHEREAS: The lose, or closing, or curtailing of the Chetzemoka park area would be a particularly im- vident measure and would be sorely soared by the citizens at large, NOW BE IT RESOLVED: That the City Council of the City of Port Townsend favor and urge a legislative act owing cities of the third class the privilege of levy to the limit of one and a half mills for city park ntenanoe, operation and promotion purposes. AND BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED= That copies of this resolution be sent to the state senator and representa- es and the Chamber of Commerce, and their aid and support be solicited for the passage of a proposed bill horizing this levy to be presented to the present state legislative session. It was moved by Councilman Starrett and seconded by Councilman Lafferty that said resolution be adopt Upon roll call all five Councilmen present voted in the affirmative and motion was declared carried.
